Splinter Cell

6600GT defeated X700XT in all respects.

Thus, on the whole:

  • RADEON X700XT versus RADEON 9800 PRO (ATHLON64 3400+) - victory
  • RADEON X700XT versus RADEON 9800 XT (ATHLON64 3400+) - approximate parity
  • RADEON X700XT versus GeForce 6600GT - defeat
  • RADEON X700XT versus GeForce 6800LE (ATHLON64 3400+) - complete fiasco!
  • RADEON X700XT with the LOW OPTIMIZATION versus RADEON X700XT WITHOUT OPTIMIZATIONS - no effect
  • RADEON X700XT with the HIGH OPTIMIZATION versus RADEON X700XT WITHOUT OPTIMIZATIONS - the same picture

DOOM III

I think there is no point in reviewing the X700XT/6600GT comparison mode by mode, since it's crystal clear that X700XT is totally defeated!

Thus, on the whole:

  • RADEON X700XT versus RADEON 9800 PRO (ATHLON64 3400+) - splendid success (however, it's expectable because its frequency is much higher)
  • RADEON X700XT versus RADEON 9800 XT (ATHLON64 3400+) - the same picture (only in higher resolutions the low memory bandwidth of X700XT slightly spoilt the results)
  • RADEON X700XT versus GeForce 6600GT - COMPLETE DEFEAT OF X700XT
  • RADEON X700XT versus GeForce 6800LE (ATHLON64 3400+) - THE SAME RESULTS
  • RADEON X700XT with the LOW OPTIMIZATION versus RADEON X700XT WITHOUT OPTIMIZATIONS - wow!!! Just look at the performance gain provided by the optimizations!!! The quality analysis is urgently needed, though it'll be very difficult considering a huge number of dark scenes, where it's hard to make out details
  • RADEON X700XT with the HIGH OPTIMIZATIONS versus RADEON X700XT WITHOUT OPTIMIZATIONS - the same picture

You should also pay attention to the negligible performance gain provided by the optimizations in 6600GT. Though you should take into account that it concerns only the trilinear filtering and AF, but not the entire optimization of the game (including shader substitution).

We express our thanks to ATI
for the video cards provided to our lab.
