CONTAX SL300R T* — a new incarnation of Finecam SL300R?

Kyocera extended its CONTAX digital camera series with CONTAX SL300R T* based on Finecam SL300R that is, in its turn, based on Finecam S5R. Sales are scheduled to the early December.

Similar to the base model, it has Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar T* lens with 3x optical zoom. The lens include 6 elements in 6 groups and aspheric element. The focal length is 5.8-17.4mm, F2.8-4.7 (38-115mm in 35mm equiv.). The focusing range is 60cm to inf. in the Normal and >20cm (W) in the Macro mode. The CCD features 3.17 million effective pixels, 1/2.7" (3.34 million pixel max.). The digital zoom is 3x, ISO — AUTO/100/200/400/800.

The camera provides 2048x1536 max. image resolution (JPEG/DCF; Exif 2.2), 640x480 @ 30/15 fps AVI movies, supports SD/MMC cards. The model has a 1.5" LCD display (118K pixels), USB (mini-B) interface. It powers from its Li-Ion battery (3.7V/780mAh) or an AC adapter.

Sized 100x15x62.5mm, it weighs about 125g. In other words, it differs from its progenitress only by the lens and appearance.

Acorp 7KT600 on VIA KT600 + VT82 chipset to arrive for sale soon

Another motherboard on VIA KT600 + VT8235 chipset – this time from Acorp – should arrive for sale soon. If you remember, MSI has just released a similar product. The KT600 chipset itself (AMD Socket A Athlon XP and Duron, 100/133/166/200 MHz FSB and DDR 200/266/333/400 SDRAM) arrived this June, while VT8235 Southbridge (UATA-133, 5.1-channel sound and USB2.0/1.1) has been used in motherboards since mid-2002.

7KT600 features 3 x DIMM sockets (up to 3GB PC3200, PC2700, PC2100, PC1600), 5 x PCI slots, 1 x AGP 8õ (3V), PS/2 keyboard and mouse, 6 x USB, 2 x COM, audio interfaces.

Oki Swing´nRinger ML2864: new sound for mobile handsets

Japanese Oki released a new PCM (Pulse Code Modulation) W-CSP (Wafer level Chip Size Package) chip — ML2864 — capable of generating up to 64 polyponic ringtones in 8 octaves simultaneously.

ML2864 is the third solution in the Swing´nRinger family evolving to improve sound generation quality. The novelty meets the modern standards, including GM (General MIDI) System Level 1.

Sized 5x5mm, the chip supports 128 timbres and 47 percussions (GM requirements), SMF, and requires 1.8V voltage. Supporting voice playback, it features a built-in 2bit/4bit OkiADPCM synthesizer and operation LED controller.

Shipments are expected to start in December.

Thunder K8₄ — Tyan´s S4880 4-way Opterons board

AMDboard.com posted some specs of Tyan´s Thunder K8&sub4; board — S4880. According to the index, it can host 4 x Opteron 8xx processors in its µPGA 940 sockets. The board bases on AMD-8131 chipset, has 10 x 184-pin 2.5V DIMM sockets (4 for the 1st CPU and 2 for each of other three CPUs). The maximum memory capacity is 20GB of PC1600, PC2100, PC2700 registered ECC modules.

Gigabyte GN-WLBZ201: a USB drive coupled with a WLAN module

Gigabyte Technology announced its GN-WLBZ101/201, a combination of a USB drive and a IEEE 802.11b WLAN module (the GN-WLBZ101 model features WLAN only). New products are designed for both notebooks, and desktops. Unlike similar devices that exist in the market GN-WLBZ201 has 128MB capacity.

The package includes software for using GN-WLBZ101/201 as an access point (Windows 2000/XP only) with 64/128-bit WEP protocol support or as a SOHO Web gate. Perhaps, the next solution will also support 802.11g standard: according to In-Stat/MDR, this year specialized wireless technologies became common, and chip makers elaborated strategies, created alliances and established partnerships.

According to this firm, this year world sales of WLAN chipsets should make 33 million, exceeding 94 millions by 2007.
