P4EE follows P4 into notebooks Do you remember how it was with notebooks on desktop Pentium 4 processors? Intel first prohibited then permitted them... And no one thought that on November 4 a new turn of this epic will start. But still this happened: it hasn´t been long since the announcement of Pentium 4 Extreme Edition, but we already receive information about the first notebooks based on these "gaming" processors. Liebermann is the first to introduce its three notebook series: Studio, Producer, and Hollywood (15", 16" and 17" displays, respectively) based on Intel´s Extreme processors (up to 3.2GHz).
![]() Still if there are no overheating problems and FreeFlow architecture proves out, the new machines (resembling Apple´s design) will find their buyers, as they surely not lag behind desktops up to 4GB DDR433 SDRAM, 7200rpm ATA-133 hard disks, optical combos, 128MB ATI Radeon 9600 Pro graphics. These notebooks have some more features comparing to their "standard" siblings: except for the standard interfaces, they feature optional TV tuners, MP3 players, card readers, Wireless LAN 802.11b/g, RAID, 2 or 4 built-in speakers, subwoofers, and integrated cameras. However, these monsters are not shipping today (well, they are actually shipped with the standard P4 processors ;). If other notebook makers follow the aforementioned company and Intel doesn´t impede, such systems might really press various desknotes and "mobile workstations". The board bases on VIA KT600 + VT8237 chipset, has 2 x DIMM sockets, supports up to 2GB DDR400 (PC3200), DDR333 (PC2700) and DDR266 (PC2100) SDRAM.
![]() The motherboard also has 5 x PCI slots, 1 x AGP 8x slot, Serial ATA and ATA133 V-RAID controllers (RAID 0, 1), Realtek 10/100 LAN, integrated 5.1-channel sound codec. The bundle includes MSI Live Update 3 (Live BIOS, Live Driver, Live VGA BIOS, Live VGA Driver and Live Utility), CoreCenter (PC Alert and Fuzzy Logic), and CoreCell Chip (Speedster, BuzzFree, PowerPro and LifePro).
Renesas introduces Dual Voltage MMC and Reduced Size Dual Voltage MMC cards Renesas Technology introduced the Dual Voltage MMC cards operating at 1.8V or 3V (vs. the standard 3V/5V) as well as the Reduced Size Dual Voltage MMC cards (RS-DV-MMC). The latter are designed for mobile handsets, digital cameras, digital televisions, etc. The latter are approximately twice smaller than standard MMC cards (24.0x32.0x1.4) 24.0x18.0x1.4 μμ. 32MB models of both types will be introduced in Japan in March 2004, with 64MB and 128MB cards arriving in May 2004.
![]() As for the higher-capacity cards, having already developed 256MB and 512MB solutions for 3.3V voltage, Renesas currently works on 1GB cards. The next product to be announced is a 4GB MMC card. 256MB solutions will be sampling in March and 512MB cards – in June 2004. Speaking of the complete MMC series offered by Renesas, it also includes standard 3V MultiMediaCards with 16/32/64/128 MB capacities and 32/64MB RS-MMC. Dual Voltage MMC and RS-DV-MMC solutions are made using 0.13µm process and feature Renesas´s proprietary controllers. By the way, despite the lower voltage, Renesas 1.8V MMC cards provide 1.8MB/s throughput.
TerraTec Aureon 7.1 Universe: the new 8-channel 24bit/192kHz soundcard TerraTec Electronic introduced its new internal 8-channel soundcard, Aureon 7.1 Universe, supplied with a front panel module and a remote control.
