Dell announces OptiPlex SX260 mini-desktop

On the wave of miniature PC success Dell Computer announced the dictionary-sized OptiPlex SX260, weighing a bit over 3 kg. The new system can be situated both vertical, and horizontal.


OptiPlex SX260 can feature Intel Pentium 4 or Celeron. Minimal configuration will cost $599, typical, with 2 GHz Pentium 4, 256MB RAM, 20GB HDD, 15-inch LCD and CD-ROM will cost $1499. Initially the company plans to ship OptiPlex SX260 to Japan, and later to other regions.

ABIT to announce Siluro GF4 Ti4200-8X OTES

ABIT prepares to release two AGP 8x graphics cards: Siluro GF4 Ti4200-8X OTES and Siluro GF4 Ti4200-8X OTES/DVI, based on recently announced NVIDIA GF4 Ti4200 with AGP 8X GPU, and equipped with new ABIT OTES cooling system.



Siluro GF4 Ti4200-8X OTES has 128MB of 3.6 ns DDR (8X16), analog, DVI-I, and TV-out. Siluro GF4 Ti4200-8X OTES/DVI has 64MB of 3.6 ns DDR (4X16), analog, and DVI-I. Both feature original OTES (Outside Thermal Exhaust System Cooler) decribed in detail in our ABIT Siluro GF4 Ti4200 OTES review.

The package includes the card, CD with drivers and Siluro DVD4 player, S-Video/RCA adapter, S-Video and Composite (RCA) cables, DVI-I => VGA adapter.

Hynix announces 0.10-micron 512 Mbit DDR chips

Hynix Semiconductor announced new 512 Mbit DDR SDRAM chips made using 0.10-micron process. Perhaps, it would be more logical to announce new process technology instead, but the company decided to follow a more practical way.

According to the company, new 512 Mbit DDR SDRAM chips are compatible with DDR 266, DDR 333, and DDR 400. New process technology is launched at three Hynix facilities in Korea, and Oregon, USA.

Hynix also plans to launch volume production of such chips later this year. The production of 0.10-micron 256 Mbit and 1 Gbit DDR SDRAM chips is scheduled to H1 2003.

New 5.1-channel Dolby Digital / DTS acoustics from Logitech

Logitech announced new 5.1-channel Logitech Z-680 acoustics of Z-Series. The new system is interesting by hardware Dolby Digital / DTS encoder. The system is designed for THX-certified home theaters and various sources: PCs, game consoles, DVD and audio players.


Z-680 specifications:

  • Subwoofer power: 185W RMS
  • Satellite power: 265W RMS (53W RMS per channel)
  • Maximum SPL: 114 dB
  • Frequency range: 35 Hz — 20 kHz

Samsung Electronics announces new 46-inch LCD

Samsung Electronics announced new 46-inch LCD panel.


The novelty features 12 ms response time, 1280x720 (2.76 million pixels) resolution, 16:9 sides, optimal for new HDTVs. Pixel size makes 0.795 mm, max. brightness 500 cd/m, dimensions 1103x629x50 mm, weight 18 kg, power consumption 230W. Wide 170° viewing angle is achieved due to the proprietary Patterned Vertical Alignment (PVA) technology. Color saturation of the new model makes 72% (NTSC), contrast 800:1.

46-inch LCDs are made at Samsung´s new 5G fab in Korea from 1100x1250 mm substrates, yielding to two 46-inch LCD panels. The volume production is scheduled to H1 2003.

ABIT to announce Siluro GF4 MX-SE 3D Graphics Accelerator

In the nearest future ABIT Computer is to ship Siluro GF4 MX-SE 3D AGP 4 graphics card.

It bases on NVIDIA Geforce4 MX440-SE GPU, has 64MB DDR, features 250/400 MHz GPU/memory clocks. Siluro GF4 MX-SE 3D also has analog and TV-out, and is supplied with ABIT Siluro DVD4, True Internet Color, 3Deep software along with composite and S-Video cables, Mini DIN => S-Video/Composite adapter.
