SV-3 Instrument Viewer: wanna wear an oscilloscope? MicroOptical, developing microdisplay systems, announced glasses with additional SV-3 Instrument Viewer system, designed for semiconductor product testers. The package includes SV-3 Instrument Viewer, a couple of protective glasses (ANSI Z-87.1), two lithium batteries, charger. SV-3 operation is simple: it duplicates oscilloscope image, enabling worker to concentrate and view both the sample, and test results. At that, SV-3 image size is equal to a fullsize display viewed at 60 cm. SV-3 operation time makes 6-8 hours without recharging. The device is compatible with tools, featuring VGA output. SV-3 provides 640x480@60Hz image and up to 64 colors. SV-3 Instrument Viewer kit costs $995, however the company plans to reduce it to several hundreds. MicroOptical potential Japanese partners are sure that the price can be reduced to 2-digit values in the near future.

DRAM production: Koreans lead the way According to online DRAM eXchange, currently Samsung Electronics and Hynix Semiconductor provide up to 49% DRAM shipments to the world market. In August their production volume made 167.7 million nominal 128 Mbit chips, that´s 4% more than July values.Other makers can´t show similar volumes. So, Micron Technologies production volumes (North American fabs) increased by 14% and made 59 million nominal chips, however other company facilities reduced production by 1%. Totally Japanese August volumes made about 24 million nominal memory chips. In August European DRAM production remained at the same level about 42 million nominal chips. Taiwanese reduced DRAM production volumes by 8%, to 50 million nominal chips. Source: Silicon Strategies
