Foxconn unveils 955X7AA-8EKRS2 motherboard on Intel´s newest 955X chipset

As you know, today Intel officially unveiled the newest 955X chipset supporting dual-core CPUs. In its turn, Foxconn announced its new 955X7AA-8EKRS2 motherboard on this core logic.

Foxconn 955X7AA-8EKRS2 supports 64-bit dual-core processors, up to 8GB of ECC DDR II 667 MHz memory and has 7.1ch HDA audio. Interfaces include dual-port Broadcom LAN, IEEE1394b, 2 x IEEE1394a, 4 x Serial ATA II (RAID 0, 1, 0+1, 5, 10 for Serial ATA drives and RAID 0, 1, 0+1 for ATA133 drives), 8 x USB2.0. The board also supports Intel SpeedStep energy saving technology.

Intel officially ships dual-core processor, chipset for it

Today Intel officially announced that Alienware, Dell and Velocity Micro launched sales of new PCs and workstations on company´s dual-core processors.

The first dual-core platform includes Intel Pentium XE 840 3.2GHz CPU and Intel® 955X Express chipset.

Intel Pentium XE 840:

  • 3.2GHz clock rate
  • 800MHz FSB
  • 2MB L2 cache (1MB per each core)
  • Intel Extended Memory 64
  • Hyper-Threading
  • Execute Disable Bit
  • 206mm² crystal size
  • 230M transistors
  • 90nm process

Intel 955X Express:

  • 800/1066MHz FSB
  • Up to 8GB of dual-channel DDR2-667/533 memory with ECC
  • Intel Memory Pipeline
  • PCI-Express x16
  • 6 x PCI-Express x1
  • 8 x USB 2.0
  • Intel High Definition Audio 7.1
  • 4 x Serial ATA II
  • Intel Matrix Storage
  • RAID 0, 1, 5, 10 and Intel Matrix RAID
  • Advanced Host Controller Interface (AHCI)

In 1,000-unit quantities Intel Pentium Extreme Edition 840 costs $999, while Intel 955X Express is priced $50.

Photo of the day: new coolers from Gigabyte in our lab

Among everything else we are now testing a couple of coolers from Gigabyte: Neon Cooler 8 Pro for AMD Athlon FX 55/64 4000+ and Neon Cooler 775 Pro for Intel Pentium 4 670/570 (up to 3.8GHz). Both have rpm speed switches and are, naturally, glowing.

MSI Megabook MS-1006: a DIY notebook!

MSI Japan launched the new Megabook MS-1006 notebook barebone for which CPU, memory and hard drive is to be installed "in the field".

Megabook MS-1006 bases on SiS 661MX integrated chipset coupled with SiS 963L Southbridge and has 1280x800 12.1" display. The machine supports Pentium M/Celeron processors with 400 MHz FSB, 2 x SO-DIMM DDR 266/333 MHz modules (up to 2GB), 2.5" IDE/Ultra ATA/100 hard drives (up to 9.5mm high) and ATAPI optical drives. The notebook has a Mini-PCI slot.

Interfaces include 3 x USB 2.0, 1 x IEEE1394, Ethernet, PCMCIA Type II, Secure Digital/MMC/Memory Stick and VGA output. The dimensions are 303x225x26mm at 1.8kg weight.

The new notebook barebone costs ¥81,500 (~$780).
