VIA announces PT880 Pro, PT894 and PT894 Pro chipsets

VIA Technologies announced a whole bunch of new chipsets for Intel Pentium 4 — PT880 Pro, PT894, and PT894 Pro — that make it possible to move to PCI-E and DDR2.

PT880 Pro and PT894 are meant for masses, while PT894 Pro is made for high-performance servers and workstations with 1066 MHz FSB.

It´s interesting that VIA´s novelties support both PCI Express and AGP interfaces through the VIA Universal Graphics Interface (UGI) of PT880 Pro.

Speaking of more technologies, there´s VIA DualGFX Express that enables quad-monitor output: with VIA PT894 one can connect monitors to both outputs of both PCI-E cards, while VIA PT880 Pro supports simultaneous AGP and PCI-E connections.

All VIA PT chipsets work with DDR-400 and DDR2-667 memory through VIA StepUp feature. All the PT series is compatible with VIA VT8237 and VIA VT8251 Southbridges (the latter offers SATA II, RAID 5 and High Definition Audio).

Tranquil PC T2e.MCE2005s: a Media Center PC on VIA EPIA platform

Tranquil, the vendor of SFF systems, together with VIA introduced the Tranquil PC Media Center 2005 (Tranquil PC T2e.MCE2005s) based on VIA EPIA SP13000 Mini-ITX motherboard, 1.3GHz VIA C3 processor and Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 OS.

Of all existing WXP Media Center solutions Tranquil PC T2e.MCE2005s seems to be the one without cooling fan. It´s no surprise actually, because fan-equipped systems are usually based on Intel processors and 915 chipset series. So, according to the company, hard and optical drives are the primary source of noise instead.
