VIA announces PT880 Pro, PT894 and PT894 Pro chipsets
VIA Technologies announced a whole bunch of new chipsets for Intel Pentium 4 PT880 Pro, PT894, and PT894 Pro that make it possible to move to PCI-E and DDR2.
PT880 Pro and PT894 are meant for masses, while PT894 Pro is made for high-performance servers and workstations with 1066 MHz FSB.
It´s interesting that VIA´s novelties support both PCI Express and AGP interfaces through the VIA Universal Graphics Interface (UGI) of PT880 Pro.
Speaking of more technologies, there´s VIA DualGFX Express that enables quad-monitor output: with VIA PT894 one can connect monitors to both outputs of both PCI-E cards, while VIA PT880 Pro supports simultaneous AGP and PCI-E connections.
All VIA PT chipsets work with DDR-400 and DDR2-667 memory through VIA StepUp feature. All the PT series is compatible with VIA VT8237 and VIA VT8251 Southbridges (the latter offers SATA II, RAID 5 and High Definition Audio).
