Photo of the day: Fujifilm FinePix F700 with the newest 1/1.7" Super CCD SR matrix We are currently testing the Fuji Film´s FinePix F700 digital camera with the newest 1/1.7" Super CCD SR matrix.
In this matrix 3 million image dots are coupled with 6 million sensors. Each dot is served by 2 sensors of various size. All this is called to improve the dynamic range, but from our first impression we judge the new technology provided less than expected. Perhaps, that´s why the newest matrix didn´t debute in a pro camera, but in a compact solution still equipped with the complete manual exposure controls though.
Maybe our impression would be better, if the bundled RAW File Converter LE is not that primitive as well.
PowerColor X40D-D3: another graphics card on Volari Duo V8 Ultra The recent silence in the Web about the new XGI Volari releases is actually alerting. Is it calm before the storm of something important scheduled to Monday, December 8, as well as the official announcement of Volari Duo V8 Ultra? Or the silence that ends in silence? Pity, but we didn´t see any news about real Volari Duo V8 Ultra cards in distributor channel, so the sales volumes are only hypothetical now. But XGI´s graphics card partners are wide awake: following the Club-3D that announced shipments of cards on XGI Volari Duo V8 Ultra, C.P. Technology posted the similar information on its website.
PowerColor Volari Duo V8 Ultra (X40D-D3) based on 2 x Volari V8 Ultra GPUs, has 256MB of 256-bit DDRII memory. Clock speeds haven´t been disclosed yet, so we can just guess if they make the 375/450 (900 DDR) MHz claimed by XGI or just 350/400MHz like Club-3D Volari Duo V8 Ultra has. The novelty has D-Sub, DVI-I, TV-out connectors and is bundled with the unified XGI Reactor Unified Driver. That´s all disclosed at the moment. It seems that more news might arrive on Monday, if only some "stray" shipment of Volari Duo V8 Ultra skids to some Japanese store on weekend.
Celeron M with 800MHz FSB: again about Intel Without fanfares the company launched shipments of processors that are to become the new mobile Celeron generation next year. According to various resources, Brainbox in particular, the new mobile Banias-based Celerons with 800MHz FSB will be based on technologies different from those used in Pentium III-M and Pentium 4, but similar to those used in the latest Pentium M. In particular, these models will be marked ULV (ultra low voltage) providing less heat. Updated Celeron M processors are positioned for tablet PCs, the niche traditionally occupied by Centrino platform and Pentium M processors. Will Celeron M be able to compete with its "rooted" sibling? It will — under particular conditions: according tInfoWorld, Motion Computing introduced the new M1300 tablet PC on this CPU for $1700 while the same model with 1GHz Pentium M costs over $2000. ZD Net mentioned that HP´s TC1100 announced in October might also feature Celeron M. PC Watch states that Celeron M processors with 800MHz FSB will have 512KB L2 cache. In Q1 2004 Intel is to introduce models working at 1.2GHz and 1.3GHz, in Q2 2004 – the 1.4GHz model, in Q3 – 1.5GHz processor. From that time Celeron M will base on 90nm Dothan core — Celeron M 900A will be the first model to have it.
