Dell unveiled Pentium M-based Inspiron 8600 Dell extended its notebook Inspiron series with Pentium M-based Inspiron 8600, which will include several versions with 1.3, 1.4, 1.6 and 1.7 GHz (i855PM chipset). Inspiron 8600 has 15.4" TFT LCD with WXGA (1280 x 800), WSXGA+ (1680 x 1050) and WUXGA (1920 x 1200) resolutions supported. Looking for the chipset we can say that the series will use PC2700 (DDR333 SDRAM). It is known, that 1.6 GHz-based model will have 1 GB RAM (maximal capacity for the systems – 2 GB). The most advanced model is equipped with 80 GB HDD (Ultra ATA/100). As for the graphics, new notebooks will have MOBILITY RADEON 9000 32 MB, optionally it can be changed to GeForce FX Go5650 128 MB or GeForce4 4200 Go 64 MB. As for the interfaces, the set is rather usual: 10/100BASE-TX, IEEE 1394, USB 2.0 (2 ports), S-Video out, CardBus Type I/II etc. It is worth mentioning such standard features as IEEE 802.11b/g and Bluetooth support. The most advanced model has built-in combo CD-R/RW & DVD-ROM drive. As it is mentioned, Inspiron 8600´s battery life is about 4 hours. The dimensions
of the notebooks are 359 x 274 x 38 mm, weight (depending on HDD/optical drive
set) is about 3.3 kg. Kodak´s tomorrow-to-publish press release of EasyShare DX6490 Some companies hurry too much to announce new products. This time I mean Kodak with its EasyShare DX6490 Digital Camera press release dated August 21. Anyway, let´s have a look. Eastman Kodak Company unveiled its most advanced digital camera, Kodak EasyShare DX6490 zoom that will go on sale next month with MSRP of $499. The camera is equipped with a professional quality Schneider-Kreuznach Variogon 10X optical zoom lens (38-380 mm equivalent) with a f/2.8 – f/3.7 maximum aperture.
VIA introduces new embedded CPU — Eden ESP7000 VIA Technologies extended its line of processors for embedded appliances with VIA Eden ESP7000 based on the CoolStream architecture and featuring the PadLock Data Encryption Engine. Soltek SL-848P-L: the first i848P-based product The provisional Soltek Computer´s motherboard roadmap that we posted about a couple of weeks ago was confirmed again by the release of the first Intel 848P-based motherboard, SL-848P-L.
Like other models on this chipset, SL-848P-L supports Intel Pentium 4 with 800MHz FSB, Intel Hyper-Threading, DDR400, AGP 8X. The company also promises that its Soltek UV technology will provide compatibility with all Pentium 4 CPUs, including those yet to be released. The ICH5 Southbridge extends SL-848P-L with 2 x Serial ATA ports, 8 x USB2.0 ports. Besides, SL-848P-L features 10/100Mbps Fast Ethernet controller. As usual for Soltek boards, the novelty supports various BIOS adjustments.
