Palit releases DAYTONA GeForce FX5200

Palit announced its solutions on NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 — DAYTONA GeForce FX5200.

No details have been announced except for the photo about DAYTONA GeForce FX5200.

I-O Data releases SM and CF readers along with industrial CF and new SD products

I-O Data announced two readers: CompactFlash (US2-CFRW) and Smart Media (US2-SMRW) — USB 2.0/1.1 CompactFlash / Smart Media Reader/Writer. Both will be available in mid-April.

Measured 56.0x66.5x15.5mm, devices weigh about 25 and 29 g (USB2-CFRW and USB2-SMRW, respectively). Power supply – 5V DC, input current – 500mA.

Besides, the company announced a like of industrial CF cards with 32, 64 and 128 Mb capacities (CFS-iV32, CFS-iV64, CFS-iV128) capable of working at –40°C to +85°C range.

Cards require 3.3V±5% or 5V±10%, consume 75mA (at 3.3V) and 100mA (at 5V). Card dimensions are 36.4x42.8x3.3mm (Type I), weight – about 9 g.

Finally, I-O Data presented 256Mb Secure Digital card – PCSD-T256M with 2Mb/s throughput. It consumes 100mA, is measured 24.0x32.0x2.1mm and weighs about 2 g.

256Mb and 512Mb cards — PCSD-256MS and PCSD-512MS – with 10Mb/s throughput are still to be released.

Samsung 4-in-1: new MCP chips

Today Samsung Electronics launched volume production of new Multi-Chip Package (MCP) memory combining chips of 4 different types intended for new 2.5/3G mobile handsets.

Samsung´s new MCP chips include SDRAM, SRAM, UtRAM or NAND/NOR, two models were being announced today:

  • RRNU6412864 of two 64Mbit NOR Flash chips, 128Mbit NAND Flash and 64Mbit UtRAM
  • NUUS128643208 of 128Mbit NAND Flash, 64Mbit UtRAM, 32Mbit UtRAM and 8Mbit SRAM

New MCP products are 1.4mm thick (just 0.2mm more than usual.) But the compact layout resulted in 50% size reduction of MCP design in general.

Samsung SCX-5312F Digital Laser Multifunction Printer Review

"With units like this all-in-one printer reviewed today, I have no idea why a company or office would separately buy a photocopier, a fax machine, a laser printer and a scanner. The pure space that all these peripherals would take up would amount to about three completely filled desktops."

Promise UltraTrak RM15000 RAID: a new storage system

Promise Technology announced its UltraTrak RM15000 ATA RAID for server appliances. It supports up to 15 Ultra ATA hard drives providing up to 3.75Tb storage capacity total.

UltraTrak RM15000 ATA RAID supports Ultra160 LVD and can be combined into arrays with similar devices. RAID 0, 1, 0+1, 3, 5, 30, 50 are supported as well as Ultra ATA 133/100 HDDs and "hot swap". All of these are packed into a standard 3U module with an LCD panel and controls. Controls are also provided via terminal command line interface (CLI) and Promise Array Management (WebPAM) for TCP/IP connections.

Shipments of UltraTrak RM15000 ATA RAID are scheduled to April; approximate price – 4999 euro.

HWZ review: Gigabyte G-MAX FB2CB v1.0

"Summing it all up, we find the G-MAX FB2CB a strong contender to Shuttle’s XPC systems with the only weak point being its expansion capabilities and the lack of a reset button. With the G-MAX FB2CB retailing at S$399 bundled with a floppy drive and a 52x CD-ROM drive, we find this to be quite a bargain."

InnoVISION presents Tornado GeForce FX 5600 Ultra, 5600, 5200 Ultra and 5200

Hong Kong InnoVISION Multimedia announced a new line of graphics cards: Tornado GeForce FX 5600 Ultra, 5600, 5200 Ultra and 5200 based on NVIDIA NV34 and NV31 GPUs.

Inno3D Tornado GeForce FX 5600 Ultra bases on NVIDIA GeForce FX 5600 Ultra featuring 64Mb or 128Mb DDR memory. Inno3D Tornado GeForce FX 5600 will also have same memory capacities.

As for the Inno3D Tornado GeForce FX 5200 Ultra, it will have 256Mb DDR. Inno3D Tornado GeForce FX 5200 will feature 64Mb or 128Mb DDR.

And bundles will include the following softwareaa: Novalogic Comanche 4, FutureMark 3DMark03 (Inno3D freeware version), InterVideo WinDVD, InterVideo WinDVD Creator and five demos: Delta Force-Black Hawk Down, Ghost Recon, Red Faction, Vietcong and Serious Sam — The Second Encounter. All of the above cards are already sampling.

Photo of the day: HIS Excalibur RADEON 9500 128MB... 128 bit!

It seems ATI did what it had promised: started to replace RADEON 9500 256-bit with cards like HIS Excalibur RADEON 9500 128MB 128-bit on Radeon 9500 PRO PCB. The special sticker illustrates this as well:

According to the serial number, HIS purchases these from Sapphire (as no one else announced 128Mb cards on Radeon 9500 in due time).

Provisional tests in our lab indicated LOWER performance at standard 275/270 (540) MHz clock speeds than that of RADEON 9500 64MB (on RADEON 9700 PCB with memory halved). So, to those who want to purchase a RADEON 9500 (not intending to remake it into RADEON 9500 PRO/9700) we advise to choose 64Mb model. Those who needs RADEON 9500 for remaking into RADEON 9700 should seek for older RADEON 9500 128Mb with 256-bit bus (these are easy to distinguish: read our Sapphire RADEON 9500 128MB review featuring photos of 256-bit card or just compare them to images here.)

So, the "newer" RADEON 9500 128MB can be successfully remade into RADEON 9500 PRO only (in case there’s no artefacts). However, the R300 production technology provides high yield, so there are still more overclockable GPUs that can be easily turned into RADEON 9500 PRO. So, you can purchase an almost real overclockable RADEON 9500 PRO for $150-160.
