AMD shares grew almost 25% last week after Tim Mahon, analyst, had informed the company was to evolve assets for a new flash memory maker to be a joint venture of AMD and Fujitsu. The new enterprise will be named Fujitsu AMD Semiconductor Limited (FASL).
In Q4 last year almost a one third of AMD revenues was earned from flash memory (sales grew by 15% comparing to Q3 2002 and by 11% against Q4 2001). Eric Ross, analyst for Investec, reported that dividing processor and flash memory businesses will make AMD a better rival in both markets. As for the new company – FASL – AMD and Fujitsu will own it equally, though Mahon supposes AMD might still control 60% of FASL. Anyway, flash memory production will ensure AMD revenues in times of low processor sales. Source: CNN Money

Mobo makers: i845PE overclocking or Springdale? In the near future the market of Intel Pentium 4 motherboards is to suffer an unpleasant "skew": as none of Taiwanese chipset makers has been granted the license for 800MHz FSB, Intel with its i865 (Springdale) and i875 (Canterwood) novelties will become the exclusive provider of solutions for the new corresponding processors. [I guess ATI is not that serious in this market for now]. Naturally, as any monopoly implies, wholesale prices for Springdale and Canterwood chipsets have been set rather high $33-53, exceeding i845 average prices by about $10.Initially, when announcements of new 845PE boards with claimed 800MHz FSB support started to arrive, I hadn’t related it to pricing for newer and older chipsets. But, according to Taiwanese mass media, this price difference between 845PE and Springdale forced makers to overclock 845PE to support 800MHz FSB. Of course, these solutions will lack some features of newer solutions, like for example dual-channel DDR support. But they’ll offer a rather important advantage – their price. Still, a buyer wishing to have a new Pentium 4 with 800MHz FSB, which will be significantly more expensive than 533MHz FSB systems, will hardly refuse to invest additional dollars into an expensive Springdale/Canterwood board. From this point the future of overclocked i845PE boards seems cloudy. However, those making their choice now might as well be interested in such cheaper solutions that give some hope for a cheaper upgrade. These "overclocked" solutions are offered by at least MSI, ABIT and Albatron at the moment.
As for the future price cut for Pentium 4 processors and prices at the moment of availability, Taiwanese The DigiTimes posted these again. We do the same, but note that the current situation, including a seat of war and cloudy political prospects, any release dates are even more approximate and can be moved depending on the situation.

The reason is rather clear and simple: the release of improved VIA KT600, differing from KT400A by 400MHz FSB support. According to provisional data, VIA KT600 will be released in early in May. It seems we were right about the fact that some makers will decide to use KT600, passing KT400A by, as rumours indicate we should see corresponding processors by that time as well. Melvine ´´Blue Edition´´ HDD VU Kit Review at Bjorn3D "This nifty electronic light show is one of the easiest mods I´ve ever seen. The lights flash outward from the center when your hard drive is active. During heavy access, all the LED light up. This is a perfect "beginner´s mod".Read more at Bjorn3D.
Brief specifications are: NVIDIA GeForce FX 5800 GPU; 128Mb DDR2; 500MHz/1GHz GPU/memory clock speeds; analog, DVI-I, TV-Out, Video-In connectors.
HWZ review: Siemens S57 Mobile Phone "The advent of color finally arriving on Siemens mobile phones is something we have long been looking forward to. For users who are looking to alternatives to the flood of Nokia’s and the like in recent months, Siemens seems to provide a viable alternative. But while it has a lot of the features you would like in a mobile phone, the Siemens S57 is mostly let down in the execution of its duties. There seem to be so many "If only..." comments we can make about this phone." Read more at HardwareZone.
Hercules 3D Prophet 9800 Pro: photos and specs We got technical specs and the first photo of Hercules´ new3D Prophet 9800 Pro graphics card.It features Radeon 9800 PRO GPU, 128Mb 256-bit DDR, analog, DVI and TV-out connectors. Nominal GPU/memory clock speeds are 380/340 MHz due to an original cooling system with copper heat-sink and dual-side memory heat-sinks (on right and back sides). The card provides an overclocking reserve and produces low noise (<28dB). The bundle also includes DVI-I to VGA adapter and software.
HWZ review: AOpen AX4R Plus (Intel E7205) motherboard "The AOpen AX4R Plus is a rather simple alternative to other Granite Bay boards. Built with just enough features for the user, it stands to compete against lighter versions of Granite Bays such as MSI´s recently introduced GNB Max2-L. With up to six PCI slots, there´s quite a lot of room for expansion, not forgetting that there are already two PCI devices on-board, which includes the Silicon Image Sil3112A Serial ATA controller and the Realtek 10/100Mbps Ethernet controller."Read more at HardwareZone.
