256 MB Memory Stick and 256 MB Memory Stick Pro: a big difference

Today we got to knew that in March, besides new 256Mb, 512Mb and 1Gb Memory Stick Pro, Sony also plans to release 256Mb cards of "older" Memory Stick standard. Let’s shed more light on this.

As we’ve previously informed Memory Stick Pro is not compatible with Memory Stick despite similar dimensions. One of the first devices that supports Pro cards is Sony DSC-F77. it seems the color scheme is to remind of the incompatibility. By the way, "PRO" means "Professional", "Progressive" and "Protection". As the same time, it turned out that Sony hasn´t yet finished with older format and announced "older" 256Mb MSA-128S2 cards with 128Mbx2 organization, like two cards in a single body. To switch between the capacities one should use the miniature selector on the card body.

According to provisional data, MSA-128S2 will cost about $150 each, and newer 256Mb, 512Mb and 1Gb Memory Stick Pro cards will cost $165, $380 and $760, respectively. As it has turned out, Memory Stick Pro will also be produced by Sandisk (on the first photo).

MSI posted the first photos of MS-8904 graphics card, based on NVIDIA GeForce FX, along with the flowchart.

There are no specifications disclosed, so just have a look at the pictures. I can add that MS-8904 has the same circuitry as the reference GeForce FX (at least after visual PCB comparison) and differs by the read PCB like other latest MSI products. By the way, the card features Samsung DDR-II memory.
