Hot from the videolab, New Year time! :-)

Very interesting news from our videolab: RightMark Video Analyzer (one of the tests, featured in the new RightMark3D) features already familiar girl, taking off the mask (yeah, a "test" girl :-)

That’s how she looks on all graphics cards, including ATI RADEON-based:

But if you install Matrox Parhelia along with the newest 1.03.00.42 drivers, our "tester" becomes frightened to death, her eyes nearly pop out after lashes are "cut off" by this wonderful Matrox product.

Parental advisory: explicit for nervous and pregnant!

It’s not the developers´ fault and no one modified the software as well, send complains to Matrox. By the way, note the missing mask, where should she get herself another one? That’s what really horrible :-)

Bubble Lines, iXBT.com Edition

On the threshold of 2003 we prepared a present for all the readers of iXBT.com — Bubble Lines, iXBT.com Edition – popular puzzle, also known as Color Lines, in the New Year outfit.

The game is available for download here.

November semiconductor sales results, according to SIA

According to Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA), the results of November worldwide semiconductor sales prove the slow, but stable market restoration. The sales volume total made $12.68 billion in November 2002, that’s 1.3% more than $12.51 of October and 19.6% more than $10.60 of November 2001.

SIA named the wireless device segment the most dynamic, underlining the increased demand for Wi-Fi components. The sales of flash memories and DSPs grew significantly as well: by 6.6% and 3.7%, respectively. CPU sales grew by 0.5%, DRAM sales – by 5.8%.

The highest sales growth of 5.8% was marked in the European market. In Asian-Pacific sales grew by 1.3%; in North America and Japan sales volumes reduced by 0.8% and 0.6%.

Swiftech MCW5000-PT: liquid cooled thermoelectric assembly

Swiftech announced the new MCW5000-PT cooler, specially for Socket 478 Intel Pentium 4 processors. The new assembly combines liquid-cooling system and thermoelectric cooler.

Swiftech MCW5000-PT main specifications:

  • 226Watts 25A at 12V thermoelectric module
  • 1/2" OD tubing for optimal flow rate
  • Patent pending Diamond-Pin Matrix© copper base plate for optimal heat transfer, and turbulent flow
  • Tool-free quick-connect fittings built into the block
  • Convenient 45° orientation of inlet, and outlet helps eliminate kinks in the tubing installation.
  • Requires removal of Intel® Pentium® 4 stock retention frame
  • "Meanwell S320-12" power supply, rated for 25A at 12V, recommended

  • 0.500" (12.7mm) thick CNC machined copper base plate.
  • Lapped flat to 3/10 of 1/1000", and mirror polished.
  • Overall dimensions including retention frame: L3.3" x W2.7" x H2.3" (L83.8 x W68.6 x H58.4 mm)

At the company website the cooler costs $110. The performance chart is below:

Athlon 64 SSE2 test results

German c´t, somehow procured the engineering sample of Athlon64, continues its testing. In addition to tests, published in the paper version of c´ January’2003 issue will contain, in particular, SPEC Suite test results with SSE2 optimizations through Intel compiler. As usual, information arrives to the Web faster than on the paper, so you can look at the test results already now.

SSE2 optimization tests feature 1.2GHz Athlon64 prototype and 2.2GHz Pentium 4.

All the test readouts in German are here.
