Gartner Dataquest is pessimistic about tablet PC sales in 2003 According to the new forecast of Gartner Dataquest, despite numerous releases and large sums, spent for promotion, tablet PC sales won’t exceed 425,000 units in 2003, making about 1.2% of worldwide notebook sales.Analysts believe that tablet PC releases represent a serious step of evolution mostly for software, as Microsoft Windows now has to support numerous data types, including audio, video, graphics, text, along with various input methods, including handwriting, voice, and onscreen keys. However, Gartner Dataquest forecasts that the lack of applications for such PCs, awkward design, and high prices will seriously slow tablet widespread, at last duing next 6 to 9 months. Though tablet prospects seem to be better. Analysts believe that already by 2007 tablets (i.e. models, supporting sensor input and featuring detachable keyboard) will make about 35% of all mobile PCs shipped. Source: The DigiTimes
