South Korean makers cut large-format PDP and LCD TV prices

Korean Digital Chosun reports that leading South Korean monitor makers, including Samsung, LG, and Daewoo, decided to cut prices for their PDP products and LCD TVs. Some discounts are to make 23%.

As the main reason for this observers state the significantly reduced demand for large-format wall-mounted TVs.

Though, LG Electronics representatives officially claim that the company can allow itself a price cut due to the significant PDP production cost price reduction. Anyway, LG´s PDP TV line became 8-22% cheaper, at that the price for company´s main product, 42-inch PDP TV, dropped by 22% — from 7.6 million won to 5.9 million won (from about $6050 to $4700). Samsung Electronics´ average PDP price cut made 20%.

Toshiba announces 4 new DynaBooks

Toshiba announced 4 new DynaBook series products: G6, G6C, T6, and E6. the sales are to start on October 26.



The first one, DynaBook G6 bases on Mobile Pentium 4-M 2.2 GHz, has 512MB RAM, 60GB HDD, 32MB DDR GeForce4 460 Go graphics, 3 USB 2.0 ports, IEEE 1394 port, IEEE 802.11b and Bluetooth V.1.1, V.90 modem and video-out for an external monitor. TFT LCD supports resolutions up to 1600x1200. Besides, this high-end notebook features a DVD drive and an optional TV-tuner.

DynaBook G6 dimensions are 334x305.8x38.2 mm, price — over 27000-38000 yens ($2250-3170).



DynaBook G6C differs from DynaBook G6 by a slower 1.8 GHz Pentium 4-M or Mobile Celeron, lower-res screen (1400x1050) and twice smaller RAM (256MB), other features are similar. The price will be 25000 and 22000 yens ($2085-$1830) for Pentium 4-M and Mobile Celeron models, respectively.



The next one, DynaBook T6, will be released with a DVD/CD-RW (24000 yens or $2000) and without it (20000 yens or $1670). Besides, it has 16MB DDR GeForce4 420 Go graphics, 3 USB 1.1 ports. But unlike previous models DynaBook T6 provides over 2-hour standalone operation, and G6 and G6C — only 1.5 hours.



Finally, DynaBook E6, based on 1.5 GHz Mobile Celeron, having 40GB HDD, 1024x768 TFT LCD, 16MB DDR Mobility Radeon graphics, will cost about 19000 yens or $1580.

Fujitsu announces a tablet PC

Fujitsu announced its á4 tablet PC, based on Mobile Pentium III-M 800 MHz and featuring 256MB RAM and 40GB HDD.


Working under Windows XP Tablet PC Edition, the tablet features 830MG with integrated graphics. 10.4-inch TFT LCD supports 1024x768 resolution.


Besides, the device has 2 USB ports, IEEE 1394 port, infra-red port, Type 2 PCMCIA, Ethernet, and IEEE 802.11b, modem interface. The cradle features a DVD/CD-RW drive and mouse port. The keyboard is wireless.

Konica Revio C2: 1.2-megapixel digital mini-camera

Konica announced new Revio C2 digital camera, sized as a credit card (85.8x55.8x13.5 mm), weighing 70 g. Revio C2 shipments will start in October.



The camera features 1.22 million effective pixels, 1.3-sec power on time, 30 cm minimal shooting range, F:2.8 aperture. The novelty will have three body variants: silver, blue, and pink, and will cost over $160.

Features also include 320È240 movie recording. Image resolutions are 1280È960 or 640È480. Revio C2 has 14MB built-in flash memory, providing storage for up to 110 images. The camera uses 2 AAA batteries with power for 100 images with 1.6-inch LCD enabled or for 150 images with LCD disabled. PC connectivity — USB interface.

EIZO Nanao announces new 15-inch LCD

Late in November EIZO Nanao is to ship its new 15-inch FlexScan L367 LCD, interesting due to the thin design: 10-mm thick sides, and 43-mm monitor depth.


The model features 15-inch 1024x768 LCD with 250 candles/sq.m brightness, 450:1 contrast, 25 ms response time. Viewing angle is 160° horizontally and 150° verticaly.

The monitor has analog and DVI-D inputs, built-in stereo speakers (2x1W). Dimensions (with support) are 326x173x329.5 mm, weight — 3.7 kg. The monitor also supports PIMII/ExifPrint. FlexScan L367 will feature two body variants: light and black. Pricing is unavailable yet.

Sun Fire 280R: new servers on 1.015 GHz UltraSPARC III Cu

Japanese Sun announced Sun Fire 280R 4U rackmount servers, based on new 1.015 GHz UltraSPARC III Cu processors. Samples will be shipped late in November, volume shipments will start in March 2003.


According to the company, Sun Fire 280R on new 1.015 GHz UltraSPARC III Cu will provide 17% higher performance than today´s 900 MHz systems. The model with two 1.015 GHz UltraSPARC III Cu (8MB cache), 2GB RAM, two 36Gb hard disks, DVD-ROM, and OS Solaris 8 will cost 3,050 thousand yens (about $25.400). The system will weigh 34 kg and feature 438x692x176 mm.

Another model — Sun Fire 280R SSL with two 900 MHz UltraSPARC III Cu (8MB cache), SSL Sun Crypto Accelerator 1000, 2GB RAM, two 36GB HDD, DVD-ROM, OS Solaris 8 will cost 3,167 thousand yens ($26.400).

Hitachi updates Prius Note line

Hitachi announced new Prius Note 200D á4 notebooks.


Prius Note 200D5TMP features SiS650 chipset, 15-inch 1024x768 LCD, 2á GHz Pentium 4, 256MB RAM, (up to 1GB), 40GB hard disk, 8/24/10/24x DVD/CD-RW, a number of interfaces. Dimensions are 326x267x49 mm, weight — 3.5 kg. The suggested price is $2250.

200D5TMCW features 1.5 GHz Mobile Celeron, 30GB HDD, wireless IEEE 802.11b interface. The suggested price is about $1900.

200D4TMA on ATI RADEON IGP 320M features 14.1-inch 1024x768 LCD, Mobile Athlon XP 1400+, 256MB RAM (up to 512MB), 30GB HDD, 8/24/10/24x DVD/CD-RW. The suggested price is about $1750.

Sales in Japan are scheduled to the end of October.

Pioneer announces external IEEE 1394 DVD-R/RW

Pioneer announced new external DVR-S502 DVD-R/RW, supporting IEEE 1394.


It bases on recently announced DVR-A05-J ATAPI DVD-RW, has 2MB buffer, supports 4x DVD-R recording, 2x DVD-RW recording, 16/8x CD-R/CD-RW recording. The drive features 2 IEEE 1394 ports, dimensions are 167x272.8x56.2 mm, weight 1.9 kg.

The product is supplied with DVD recording and playback software, operates under Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP. Shipments of Pioneer DVR-S502 will start early in December, the suggested price is about $420.

Gigabyte announces GV-R9500 graphics card on ATi Radeon 9500

Today Gigabyte announced new GV-R9500 graphics card on ATi Radeon 9500. It supports AGP 8È and Microsoft DirectX 9.0.
