2.80 GHz Intel Xeon to be released in the 3rd quarter
According to the latest Web reports, Intel successfully masters 0.13 micron process technology and plans to release 2.80 GHz Xeon this quarter though it has been expected closer to the year-end. Most of company´s server strategy remains unchanged also indicating Intel´s assurance in the timely release of the next generation of Gallatin-based Xeon. The announce is still planned to the 1Q, 2003. First, we´ll see the 2 GHz, 1.9 GHz, and 1.5 GHz chips with 2 MB, 1 MB, and 1 MB L3 cache, respectively.
2.80 GHz Xeon, expected soon, are to be used with previous Serverworks GC-HE and E7500 chipsets; the new Xeon chipset E7501 supporting 533 MHz FSB is to appear only the next quarter.
Pentium III-S CPUs with 512 KB cache are to quit the stage closer to the end of 2002.
