SMART Modular unveils new registered DDR400 SDRAM DIMM modules

SMART Modular Technologies extended its registered PC3200 DIMM series with two new solutions: 0.72" and 1.2" high for smaller than 1U and usual 1U form-factors. The novelties are organized as 512Mx72, feature 512 Mbit chips and operate at +2.6 V.

According to experts, 0.72" modules are now popular enough due to 38% board space savings in 1U solutions.

The complete series of 4 GB modules includes:

OEM model number Type Height Capacity Organization Chip architecture
SM572124DD8E8FO01 PC3200 3-3-3 0.72" 4 GB 512Mx72 128Mx4
SM572124DD8E8FO 1.2"
SM51272RDDR8H4BGLP 1.2"
SM51272RDDR6H4BGLP PC2700 2.5-3-3 1.2"
SM51272RDDR8H4BGVP PC3200 3-3-3 0.72"
SM51272RDDR6H4BGVP PC2700 2.5-3-3 0.72"
SM51272RDDR6H4HP-I 2.0"

Renesas showcases MRAM for SoC

Renesas Technology showcased 1 Mbit chip Magnetoresistive Random Access Memory made using 0.13µm CMOS process for system-on-chip solutions.

According to the tests, the chip clock rate is 143 MHz at 1.2 V, while the number of rewrite cycles made 1 trillion at 150°C without reducing the physical state. Finally, cell read time made 5.2 ns.

If you remember, MRAM memory is made of magnetic materials (often used in magnetic heads) and Magnetic Tunnel Junction (MTJ), so the performance depends on MTJ structure.

The showcased MRAM prototypes have 1T-1MTJ architecture (1 transistor and 1 memory cell transition), the tunnel magneto-resistance element (TMR) is sized 0.26x0.44µm², while a memory cell is sized 0.81µm².

Shuttle CR40: a DVD burner for XPC SFF barebones

Shuttle officially launched shipments of its CR40 DVD burner designed for XPC SFF (small form-factor) barebones.

Shuttle CR40 provides 16x DVD±RW recording and 4x DL recording.

The color and button design of the novelty fully meets the design of XPC SS58G2 SFF system.
