MMCmicro a new miniature flash card from Samsung
Samsung developed another flash card "the most miniature in its class". Like similar flash media, MMCmicro is made considering low energy consumption, longer battery life and higher capacity. Naturally, it´s designed for mobile handsets and other portable devices.

MMCmicro is sized 12x14x1.1 mm. It´s by 2/3 smaller than the size of RS-MMC. Voltage ranges from 1.8 to 3.3 V. As for the performance, it´s 10 MB/s for reading and 7 MB/s for writing. Initially capacities will be 32, 64 and 128 MB, though theoretically company claims up to 5 NAND flash chips can be packed into a single card. The volume production is scheduled to early 2005.
So, Samsung still prefers MMC format, the annual demand for which, according to Gartner, will make 61% up to 2007. At the moment the Korean company offers RS-MMC and MMCmobile for mobile handsets as well as MMC and MMCplus for digital cameras.
Toshiba unveils two 1.8" hard drives with perpendicular recording
Toshiba introduced the first 1.8" hard drives with perpendicular recording allowing for 40 GB plates. The 40 GB MK4007GAL and 80 GB MK8007GAH will be volume-produced in Q1 and Q2 of financial year 2005 (starting on April 1, 2005), respectively.

Judging by the official information, the data density makes 206 Mbit/mm² or 133 Gbit/inch2.

GLADIAC 743 LP 128MB: a low-profile PCI-E graphics card from ELSA
Having announced a novelty on NVIDIA Quadro FX 3400 GPU in August, ELSA was keeping silent for some time and now broke it by releasing a new GLADIAC 743 LP 128MB PCI-E card.

GLADIAC 743 LP 128MB bases on NVIDIA GeForce 6600 GPU, supports PCI Express x16 interface and has 128 MB DDR SDRAM in FBGA chips. The MSRP is ¥20,000 ($190).
The cooler provided makes noise up to 23 dB. The clock rates are 300/500 MHz (128-bit bus). Supported technologies include DirectX 9.0c, Shader Model 3.0, OpenGL 1.5. Interfaces are VGA (2048x1536), DVI-I (1600x1200), S-Video, Composite, HDTV (1920x1080). The novelty is sized 168x59 mm.
