TI unveils new WLAN IP phone platform Texas Instruments unveiled the new integrated Wireless LAN (WLAN) IP phone platform, TNETV1600, based on OMAP16xx architecture widely used in cellular devices:
The complete solution includes TNETW1230 WLAN chipset with software that supports both existing and new comm standards as well as the Telogy Software for VoIP software interface for transmitting voice over WLAN. MAC/Baseband TNETW1230:
Additionally there is a dual-channel TLV320AIC22C codec and TPS65010 power management chip. Currently the company is working on WLAN secure connectivity solutions. According to the press release, Ascom Wireless Solutions, European vendor of mobile terminals, already agreed to use the platform in its solutions.
Samsung offers first MMCplus and MMCmobile cards Korean Samsung released the first cards of the new MMCplus and MMCmobile standards offered by MMCA. Both memory chips and controllers are developed by the company.
To improve data throughput Samsung based MMC controller on 32-bit ARM7 and at the same time widened data bus to 8 bits. Host interface speed was improved from 2.5 to 52 MB/s. Samsung´s memory controller supports firmware upgrades and can be modified by installing 48 KB of flash memory instead of EEPROM. Besides, the company honed caching and alternating algorithms to improve read/write performance.
Intel introduces Celeron D 340 and Intel 910GL, updates Celeron D 325, 330, 335 solutions Intel introduced a number of new solutions for the value segment, including Intel Celeron D 340 CPU and Intel 910GL Express chipset supporting PCI Express, Intel High Definition Audio, Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900.
According to the press release, Intel Celeron D 340 is a balanced desktop solution with a good price/performance ratio. The novelty is made using 90nm process, has 256 KB L2 cache, 533 MHz FSB and 2.93 GHz. There are two variants: mPGA478 and LGA775, that means it can also be used with Intel 915 Express boards. Besides, existing Celeron D 325, 330 and 335 were also released for LGA775 sockets for Intel 915 Express boards. In over 1,000-unit quantities Intel Celeron D 340 costs $117, Intel 910GL costs $34.
