NVIDIA GoForce 3D 4500 officially announced

NVIDIA announced GoForce 3D 4500 GPU as the first wireless media processor (WMP). According to the press release, the novelty will provide mobile devices with previously unavailable multimedia features.

  • Programmable shaders; bilinear and trilinear filtering; texture compression; supports up to 6 simultaneous textures; 40-bit color pipeline
  • NVIDIA nPower energy saving
  • MPEG-4 and H.263 for VHS quality video
  • 3Mp JPEG codec for image capture and preview
  • Supports OpenGL-ES, D3D-Mobile, M3G APIs

The first solution on GoForce 3D 4500 will be Tiger Telematics Gizmondo gaming console, while handsets will arrive in H1 2005.

ATI X700 officially announced

ATI Technologies officially introduced RADEON X700 GPU series that all RADEON X800 features at lower performance: 8 pixel and 6 vertex pipelines (713 million polygonal transformations per second, 5.7 billion vertex shader operations per second). According to the press release, the series includes RADEON X700 XT, RADEON X700 PRO, RADEON X700.

RADEON X700 PRO is now shipping. Cards are expected from ABIT, ASUS, Connect3D, Diamond Multimedia, GigaByte, HIS, ITC, MSI, Palit, Sapphire, Tul, Visiontek and YUAN. RADEON X700 XT and RADEON X700 will be shipping next month.

X700 series is produced by TSMC using 0.11µm process. These GPUs support GDDR3 (128-bit bus, 128/256 MB) memory as well as SMARTSHADER HD, SMOOTHVISION HD, 3DC, VIDEOSHADER HD technologies. One of the most noticeable features is HDTV support (EIA 861B specs):
