AMD showcases dual-core processors Nokia 7260, 7270, 7280: three new fashion phones Yesterday it was day 3 of Intel Developer Forum Fall 2004 in San Francisco. First, there were speeches of Pat Gelsinger and Vinton Cerf (also known as the "father of Internet"). Gelsinger underlined that modern Internet has evolved far from DARPAnet and is now used to transmit very different content. The increased amount of users and the need to maintain QoS (Quality of Service) bring to life problems, which, according to Gelsinger, require a radical change in network infrastructure.

![]() ![]() Well, obviously the development of Computational Services Overlay will bring Intel some good earnings. ;) Besides, the last IDF day brought two interesting press releases: about new portable data storage interface and SATA development. The new CE-ATA interfaces (CE consumer electronics) will be developed by Intel, Hitachi Global Storage Technologies, Marvell, Seagate and Toshiba America Information Systems. CE-ATA defines hard-drive storage of small size, low energy consumption and minimal pin count. CE-ATA specs are expected to arrive in H1 2005. Some months later we should see the first products. As for SATA, they announced creation of the new SATA-IO, Serial ATA International Organization, that will gather about 40 electronics vendors. SATA-IO will promote 3 Gbps devices, according to the latest SATA specs. At IDF they showcased working 3 Gbps systems from AMCC, Seagate, Hitachi Global Storage Technologies and Silicon Image.
AMD showcases dual-core processors At IDF AMD, according to its Japanese branch, showcased a working prototype of a dual-core Opteron in a 4-processor Proliant DL585 server that was recognized as a 8-way model by software.
