Elpida Memory informed that in August it will launch volume production of 0.10µm DDR2 SDRAM components. The first such solutions will be DDR2-533 and DDR2-667 SDRAM chips. As company´s CEO stated, Elpida is ready for possible increase of demand for new-generation memory, adding that 50% of 0.10µm chips made of 300mm wafers will be DDR2-533/667 SDRAM.

300mm wafer, 1 Gbit chips

According to analysts, in June Elpida´s DDR2 SDRAM share was 15-17% of all market, volume. These values may grow to 46-50% by December.

1 Gbit DDR2-533/400 components are currently sampling, while 512 Mbit chips are already in volume production.

Problems with Olympus CAMEDIA C-8080 Wide Zoom — check the serial number

Olympus informed that a number of Olympus CAMEDIA C-8080 Wide Zoom cameras suffer from noise during AF shooting and write incorrect focal length in Exif.

This was published at Japanese PC Watch, so it´s not clear whether such cameras are present in other markets or not. Problems were found in models with numbers up to 308701000. According to the company, this defect can either be cured by upgrading firmware manually (new version, 2.16 MB) or in service centres.

Hewlett-Packard unveil h6300, hx4700, rx3000 PDAs

Hewlett-Packard updated its iPAQ PDA series with h6300, hx4700, rx3000 models. iPAQ h6300 features GSM/GPRS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth; iPAQ hx4700 has a touchpad similar to those used in notebooks; finally, iPAQ rx3000 offers rich multimedia capabilities being oriented at youngsters.

iPAQ rx3000 series include models with digital cameras (rx3700, 1280x960, 4x digital zoom) and without them (rx3100). rx3100 is lighter (147.4g vs. 158.1g), has 980mAh battery vs. 1440mAh of rx3700, and has less memory (rx3700 offers 152MB free with 96MB iPAQ File Store, while rx3100 has only 56MB free).
