Our Alexander Vorobiev took some photographs at Elitegroup´s (ECS) booth at Computex 2004, which are provided below and which you can click view a larger image. Like other participants, ECS showcased a i915-P-based board, 915P-A, for Intel Pentium LGA775. It supports dual-channel DDR2-533/400 and DDR400 SDRAM and has 2 x DDR2 and 2 x DDR sockets, 1 x PCI Epress x16 and 2 x PCI Epress x1 slots, 1 x AGP Express slot, 2 x PCI and 1 x CNR slots. Other features are traditional: 8 x USB 2.0, 4 x SATA, Gigabit LAN, 8-channel audio.
The next exhibit is D21 I4-3 SFF barebone:
And of course Alexander couldn´t pass by A535+ notebook on AMD´s mobile processor (in 462-pin CPGA body). It based on SiS740 + SiS692L motherboard, initially has 128MB DDR SDRAM, 143MHz graphics core, 10/100 Base-T LAN, WLAN 802.11b/g. The model will be offered with 14.1" and 15" LCDs and will work about 1.5 hours with a standard battery.
Computex 2004: S3 Graphics showcases OmniChrome At Computex 2004 S3 Graphics showcased its new OmniChrome solution that combines DeltaChrome S4 Nitro GPU and HDTV tuner. It has become known about OmniChrome development in March at CeBIT. Besides OmniChrome designed for AGP 8x, we should also expect GammaChrome designed for PCI Express.
OmniChrome is focused on the HDTV tuner that supports component VIVO and is suitable for Microsoft Media Center platforms. The tuner bases on 1216 and 1236ME MK3 modules from Philips Electronics and Techwell video decoder. Of course, OmniChrome supports analog TV signals via composite inputs and outputs and S-Video. According to the company, Club-3D´s OmniChrome-based graphics card should soon hit the European markets. As for DeltaChromeS4 Nitro, it supports DirectX 9.0, shaders, has 4-stage pixel pipeline. HDTV output is integrated directly into DeltaChromeS4 Nitro that also supports Chromotion Programmable Video Engine.
nForce 3 Ultra: photos of the new single-chip solution We have finally obtained photos of nForce3 Ultra chipset for AMD Athlon Socket 939. In this case the company decided to use single-chip architecture to reduce power consumption.
The innovations include firewall in NVIDIA nForce3 MCP. According to the press release, it has flexible settings, extended management options (remote access, configuration and monitoring). Other features are similar to other nForce 3 solutions:

Intel vs. AMD: competition moves to the embedded market Yesterday at Computex 2004 Intel announced three new embedded processors: two Pentium M (745 and Celeron M) designed for telecomm segment and PXA270 designed for PDAs, etc. Pentium M 745 and Celeron M should also be used in industrial PCs and retail sales systems, while PXA270 is the base for portable media players and navigation systems.
As you know, the new Pentium M processors on 90nm Dothan core with 2MB L2 cache were introduced on May 10, while PXA27x on April 12. Pentium M continues the Centrino mobile family with integrated (mostly) wireless features, and PXA27x is designed for pocket PCs and mobile handsets. The newly introduced versions will be used in narrowly specialized computing systems that usually enter the market seven or eight months after processor announcements. With this Intel alludes to speeding up the promotion of its processor architectures into the embedded market. According to the company, Pentium M 745 processors will be used together with AdvancedTCA motherboards, Celeron M won´t require any cooling fans, and PXA270 systems will support Intel Wireless MMX for 3D graphics, fullscreen video and integrated multi-megapixel cameras. The market will see three versions of PXA270: 312MHz, 416MHz, 520MHz. Embedded 1.8GHz Intel Pentium M 745 will cost $415 in over 10,000-unit quantities. 600MHz ULV Intel Celeron M will cost $127, and 312MHz PXA270 $32. Meanwhile AMD, also urging to conquer the embedded market announced a thin client RDK for recently announced AMD Geode GX. The RDK is also designed to provide fast product development for various markets, including enterprise, blade servers, sales terminals and educational systems.
The offered kit bases on AMD Geode GX 533@1.1W processor (if you remember, AMD processor names now include dissipated heat amount that is equal to 1.1W in this model) located on 4.7x5.3" (119x135mm) board and also includes:
Transmeta Efficeon TM8620 and TM8800: at the turn of 0.13µm and 0.09µm processes Transmeta introduced its new low-power Efficeon TM8620 processor for mobile and SFF systems operable with passive cooling. Like the previous versions, TM8620 combines CPU and Northbridge in a single chip that saves PCB place. TM8620 differs from TM8600 by the smaller size of 21x21mm, i.e. it´s 48% smaller than its predecessor.
TM8800 to the left, TM8620 to the bottom right Novelty´s key features are:
At the moment only samples are avaiable, while the volume production (by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company) will start in the middle of this year.
At the same time the company announced its second-generation 1.6GHz processor made using 90nm process TM8800. It has 8x10mm crystal size, 7W TDP, supports SSE3 and LongRun2. As for plans for the future, this year the company plans to release 1.8GHz processor with 12W TDP, 2GHz processor with 25W TDP. Considering that ULV Pentium M 733 (1.1GHz) has 5W TDP and the fact that the release is scheduled to Q3 this year, Transmeta has very strong positions and can compete with Intel in some fields.
