We are currently testing another tuner from AVerMedia Technologies Inc., AVerTV Studio Model 307. The model differs from the previous solutions by (305, in particular) by NICAM stereo support.

The bundle includes:

  • Tuner itself
  • Remote control
  • External remote IrDA sensor
  • Cable to soundcard line-in
  • FM antenna
  • Software CD
  • Manual

According to our tuner guru, Alexey Samsonov, very noticeable is the lack of usual electrolytic capacitors. Nothing to worry about, they are replaced by more effective, reliable and long-living ceramicons.

The receiver is the same Philips FM1256/IH-3, while ADC is Philips SAA7134HL with aforementioned stereo support.

You will be able to read more on pros and contras of this product in the upcoming review.

Controller brief features are:

  • Pin-compatible with LSI53C1010R Ultra160 SCSI
  • 133MHz 64-bit PCI-X
  • 64-bit addressing, Dual Address Cycle (DAC)
  • Meets PCI 2.2 and PCI-X Addendum Rev. 1.0
  • InterSymbol Interference (ISI)
  • Burst transfer protocol
  • Quick Arbitrate and Select (QAS)
  • SureLINK domain validation:
    • Basic (Level 1)
    • Enhanced (Level 2)
    • Margined (Level 3)
  • Integrated LVDlink transceivers for direct connection to Low Voltage Differential (LVD) and SE SCSI
  • 640MB/s peak SCSI dual-channel bandwidth
  • 1066MB/s peak PCI-X dual-channel bandwidth
  • 456-pin EPBGA package
  • Flash memory interface

VIA officially announces K8T800 Pro chipset for AMD64

The new core logic for AMD64 platform has finally been announced: VIA K8T800 Pro. We´ve repeatedly it in the news, so now we are just to state its announcement and revise features.

According to the press release, VIA Technologies launched VIA K8T800 Pro shipments to customers, so we should expect new Athlon 64 / Athlon 64 FX motherboard in stores soon.

Some names sounded at CeBIT 2004 in March: ASUS A8V Deluxe, Elitegroup Photon KV2, etc. (Below is a photo from VIA booth: reference K8T800 Pro board and S3 Graphics DeltaChrome S8 Nitro reference graphics card).

The Pro version resembles the previous K8T800 that supports 800MHz HyperTransport FSB, AGP 2x/4x/8x and Ultra V-Link, but already features 1GHz HyperTransport FSB.

The chipset is to be coupled mostly with with VT8237 Southbridge and its modifications and will be aimed at new Athlon 64 Socket 939 processors. Though a number of motherboard makers have also informed on plans to make solutions on K8T800 Pro for 754-pin Athlon 64 betting on their 1GHz FSB support.
