VIA officially announces K8T800 Pro chipset for AMD64
The new core logic for AMD64 platform has finally been announced: VIA K8T800 Pro. We´ve repeatedly it in the news, so now we are just to state its announcement and revise features.
According to the press release, VIA Technologies launched VIA K8T800 Pro shipments to customers, so we should expect new Athlon 64 / Athlon 64 FX motherboard in stores soon.
Some names sounded at CeBIT 2004 in March: ASUS A8V Deluxe, Elitegroup Photon KV2, etc. (Below is a photo from VIA booth: reference K8T800 Pro board and S3 Graphics DeltaChrome S8 Nitro reference graphics card).
The Pro version resembles the previous K8T800 that supports 800MHz HyperTransport FSB, AGP 2x/4x/8x and Ultra V-Link, but already features 1GHz HyperTransport FSB.
The chipset is to be coupled mostly with with VT8237 Southbridge and its modifications and will be aimed at new Athlon 64 Socket 939 processors. Though a number of motherboard makers have also informed on plans to make solutions on K8T800 Pro for 754-pin Athlon 64 betting on their 1GHz FSB support.
