Photo of the day: Samsung´s DDR2 PC4300 memory modules

Soon desktop DDR2 memory will not be exotic, but a usual component of our home/office systems like it was with DDR.

There´s just several months left until you will be able to freely purchase such modules alongside the respective motherboards. At the moment I can say that memory vendors prepare to launch mass DDR2 shipments before the mobo vendors will make their move. And this photo of the day is a right confirmation of this.

CeBIT 2004: 0-day

The annual CeBIT 2004 that takes place in Hannover, Germany, seems to be the largest Spring event in its class that gathers whole lot of journalists and participants. It has already become a tradition that novelties showcased at CeBIT late in March arrive to retail and remain actual at least until the Autumn. Many companies use this event to announce the newest products or prospect developments.

Today is the 0-day of CeBIT 2004, when journalists confirm their newspaper affiliation and participants make the last showcase checks. Our Alexander Vorobyev, the representative of iXBT.com and Digit-Life.com, had time to visit the halls and sent us the first photos that we post here. And the general excitement is to start tomorrow. Stay with us, I guess this would be a very interesting event.

Siemens to unveil S65, C65, M65 mobile handsets at CeBIT 2004

Despite that CeBIT 2004 is to start only tomorrow, Siemens took advantage of its close geographical location to the event place and announced several new handsets for its 60 series: S65, C65, M65, and also re-introduced CF62 and CX65 products.

Belonging to the business class, S65 features 1.3-megapixel digital camera and 132x176 & 65536-color LCD. The handset supports 4x digital zoom, 15fps movie recording, and utilizes MultiMediaCards (32MB bundled). Optionally you can purchase a flash for low-light environments.

S65 works in 900, 1800, 1900 MHz GSM ranges and supports GPRS Class 10, syncronises with Microsoft Outlook, Lotus Notes and other office tools. Sized 109x4(?)x18 mm, it weighs 98g. Its battery provides 250 hours of standby and up to 6 hours of talk.

C65 also has a 65536-color display and works in 900, 1800, 1900 MHz GSM ranges as well supporting GPRS Class 10, MMS, Java and WAP. It features 640x480 digital camera, and is positioned as the widely "personalisable" model. Its battery provides up to 410-hour standby and up to 5-hour talks.

M65 has the same features as C65, but is a true M-series product with a dust/dampproof body. Similar to S65 and C65, M65 can be used with an optional flash.

FASL LLC launches mass production of 0.11µm Spansion Flash memory series

FASL LLC, the joint venture of Advanced Micro Devices and Fujitsu, launched mass production of Spansion Flash memory series using the 0.11µm floating gate process. According to the general manager of FASL LLC wireless technologies group, the transition from 0.13µm to 0.11µm and the mass production might make Spansion the best price/performance high-density memory in 2004.

At the moment many mobile handset makers estimate possibilities of using such memory products in their solutions, because this can reduce comm production costs by 30%. Having studied the production expertise at Fab 25 and JV3 fabs "dedicated" to Spansion, FASL LLC optimized the process and increased the amount of crystals per wafer by 50% comparing to the previous releases.

According to AMD press release, in the nearest future the company is going to unveil more 0.11µm Spansion products, including 1.8V burst memory and 3V page memory for wireless networks.

OCZ Technology introduces 1GB DDR434/466 SDRAM DIMM modules and 2GB kits for its Performance series

OCZ Technology introduced the new unbuffered 1GB PC3500 (DDR434) and PC3700 (DDR466) modules for its Performance series alongside the respective 2GB kits for dual-channel systems.

Both PC3500 and PC3700 (and also kit modules) have aluminium heatsinks. PC3500 modules feature CL3-3-3-8 (CAS-tRCD-tRP-TRAS) timings at 2.6V, while PC3700 — CL3-4-4-8 at 2.7V. All kit couples are tested on ASUS P4C800 Deluxe motherboard.

Thus at the moment company´s DDR434 Performance series includes 512MB, 1GB and 2GB kits (OCZ433512PFDC-K, OCZ4331024PFDC-K, OCZ4332048PFDC-K, respectively), and DDR466 Performance series offers 512MB, 1GB and 2GB kits (OCZ466512PFDC-K, OCZ4661024PFDC-K, OCZ4662048PFDC-K, respectively) as well.

AMD Athlon XP-M 2100+: a new processor for Thin & Light notebooks

Today AMD officially extended its mobile processor series with a new AMD Athlon XP-M 2100+ CPU. Similar to the predecessors, the new 1.6GHz chip is made using 0.13µm process. According to AMD, the new CPU has better power consumption that allows positioning it for "Thin & Light" notebooks.

AMD Athlon XP-M 2100+ is already shipping. In over 1,000-unit quantities the novelty costs $97. One of the first North American solutions on AMD Athlon XP-M 2100+ will be LifeBook S2000 from Fujitsu Computer Systems.
