As for the HD DVD format, it was first offered by Toshiba and NEC at DVD Forum in August 2003. In November 2003 they approved HD DVD-ROM specs version 0.9 as the base for developing the future DVD technologies. HD DVD is based on using the blue laser and 12cm discs. A dual-layer single-sided 1x HD DVD will have 30GB capacity, while a single-layer single-sided disc should have capacity of about 20GB. At the same time, HD DVD will be backward compatible with the current DVD media due to similar production technologies that enable to use the same optics with variable laser wavelength control system. Besides the original pick-up, Toshiba´s HD DVD prototype has special core logic combining engine controls, DSP chip and ATAPI interface. No commercialization information has been disclosed yet.

It´s separately stressed that this severance doesn´t mean ABIT is to become an adherent of ATI, but the reason is "irreconcilable management differences". We´ll leave this without comments not to boost the situation further. It would be better to wait for official comments from both companies.
