Bjorn3D looks at Crucial PC3200 memory

"Even though 640k was said to be enough for everyone a couple of years ago the need for more memory increases with each version of Windows or each new hot Doom/Quake/Unreal game.

We´ve gotten hold of a 1 GB Kit (2x512 MB DIMMS) from Crucial. With no heatsinks it might not be as cool looking as memory from competitors but on the other hand it is cheaper. Is it worth saving a few bucks going with the Crucial? Read our review to find out what we thought."

Intel Pentium 4 3.0C 800FSB Processor Review @ Tweaknews.net

"It´s fast, it´s stable and it is terribly expensive. With a price point that is more than twice the cost of the 2.4C, you really have to do a price to speed comparison to see if the extra US$150+ dollars is really worth the 600Mhz increase. If the retail version of 3.0C overclocks in the same manner as it´s slower siblings, reaching the 3.7-4.0Ghz range should not be a problem."

Toshiba extends dynabook series with S8 and V8

Toshiba extended its dynabook series with several new models. First, there’s dynabook S8 on 1GHz Pentium M (3 models with different WLAN features and software) to become available from July 18.

The most powerful S8/210LNKW supports IEEE 802.11b. S8/210LNLN and S8/210LNSN feature CompactFlash Type II slots instead. Other differences are entirely software-related.

As for the specs, they are: 12.1" display (1024x768), 256Mb DDR266 (up to 768Mb), 40Gb HDD. Intel 855GM chipset with integrated 64Mb graphics core. All models also have PC Card Type II and SD slots, Ethernet controllers and 3 x USB2.0 ports.

Standard batteries provide 2.8 hours of operation, middle-capacity batteries — 5.9 hours, finally, large-capacity accumulators provide whole 8.5 hours. Sized 286x229x14.9-19.8mm (with a standard battery), notebooks weigh about 1.09kg.

Dynabook V8/513LMEW on 1.3GHz Pentium M with Windows XP Home Edition and Office XP Personal will arrive on July 11.

This one features 15" TFT LCD (1024x768), 256Mb DDR266 (up to 1Gb), 40Gb HDD. Intel 855PM chipset features 32Mb MOBILITY RADEON 9000 core. Supporting IEEE 802.11b, according to the maker, the model also has internal DVD-R/RW/RAM drive, Ethernet controller, PC Card Type II and SD slots, 3 x USB2.0 ports, 1 x IEEE1394 port.

The Li-Ion battery provides about 5 hours of operation. Sized 333.7x276.3x29.9mm, it weighs about 2.86kg.

HWZ review: Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 120GB (SATA)

"All in all, the Barracuda 7200.7 SATA is a big improvement over the Barracuda SATA V. We may be disappointed with the earlier 2MB version, but our fears were unfounded simply because the buffer size was severely hampering its performance. The Barracuda 7200.7 is definitely one of the faster SATA drives around and would make an ideal RAID setup. However, its transfer rates did not help it to gain much ground over its competitors and we certainly hope their next model would address that. Still, if you want a drive with good write performance, there´s none other than the Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 SATA."

Toshiba Satellite P25-S507: a new mobile workstation announced

Toshiba Computer Systems Group (CSG) announced its Satellite P25-S507 notebook with 17" display (1440x900).

Based on 2.8GHz Pentium 4 (800MHz FSB), it has 512Mb RAM (up to 2Gb), 60Gb HDD, 32Mb NVIDIA GeForce FX Go5200, modem, 10/100 Ethernet controller, IEEE802.11a/b, SD slot, DVD-R/RW drive. Interfaces include 4 x USB2.0 ports, 1 x IEEE1394 port, RGB-out, LPT-out.

Sized 417x292x45.7mm, it weighs about 4.5kg. Battery provides 2-hour operation. Considering notebook features, I guess it belongs to the same class, as Eurocom’s D800P Dream Machine, i.e. it’s a mobile workstation.
