Toshiba extends dynabook series with S8 and V8
Toshiba extended its dynabook series with several new models. First, there’s dynabook S8 on 1GHz Pentium M (3 models with different WLAN features and software) to become available from July 18.
The most powerful S8/210LNKW supports IEEE 802.11b. S8/210LNLN and S8/210LNSN feature CompactFlash Type II slots instead. Other differences are entirely software-related.
As for the specs, they are: 12.1" display (1024x768), 256Mb DDR266 (up to 768Mb), 40Gb HDD. Intel 855GM chipset with integrated 64Mb graphics core. All models also have PC Card Type II and SD slots, Ethernet controllers and 3 x USB2.0 ports.
Standard batteries provide 2.8 hours of operation, middle-capacity batteries 5.9 hours, finally, large-capacity accumulators provide whole 8.5 hours. Sized 286x229x14.9-19.8mm (with a standard battery), notebooks weigh about 1.09kg.
Dynabook V8/513LMEW on 1.3GHz Pentium M with Windows XP Home Edition and Office XP Personal will arrive on July 11.
This one features 15" TFT LCD (1024x768), 256Mb DDR266 (up to 1Gb), 40Gb HDD. Intel 855PM chipset features 32Mb MOBILITY RADEON 9000 core. Supporting IEEE 802.11b, according to the maker, the model also has internal DVD-R/RW/RAM drive, Ethernet controller, PC Card Type II and SD slots, 3 x USB2.0 ports, 1 x IEEE1394 port.
The Li-Ion battery provides about 5 hours of operation. Sized 333.7x276.3x29.9mm, it weighs about 2.86kg.
