TEAC Europe announces three new CD-RW drives
TEAC Europe announced two new external CD-RW drives and an internal DVD/CD-RW combo. The novelties are to arrive to the market in the nearest future.
Portable CD-W552 PUK USB Drive features aluminium body, supports 52/24/52x speeds, Mount Rainier, buffer protection, has a 2Mb buffer and USB 2.0 interface. Read seek makes about 100ms. The recorder is compatible with CD-ROM Mode-1/650 MB/700 MB, CD-DA, CD-RW, CD-ROM XA Mode-2 (Form-1)/650 MB/700 MB, CD-MRW, CD-ROM XA Mode-2 (Form-2), CD-I, Video-CD, Photo-CD (Multisession), CD-Extra, and also Disk-at-Once, Track-at-Once, Session at Once, packet burst modes. Its dimensions are 149x41.5x197.5mm, weight – 997 g.
The external CD-W224 PUK (CD-W224E) provides 24/10/24x speeds, buffer protection, has 2Mb buffer and USB 2.0 interface. Read seek is 110ms. The drive is compatible with CD-DA, CD-I, Video-CD, CD-ROM-XA Mode 2, CD-ROM Mode 1, CD-Plus, Multisession Photo-CD, Enhanced CD, and Disk-at-Once, Track-at-Once, Session-at-Once, packet burst modes. It weighs 210 g.
DW-224 PUK (DW-224E) is an internal DVD/CD-RW combo supporting 8/24/10/24x and USB 2.0, and featuring 2Mb buffer. The model is compatible with DVD-ROM, DVD-Video, CD-ROM, Photo CD, CD-I, Video CD, Enhanced CD, CD Plus, CD-Text standards. Its dimensions are 128x12.7x129.4mm, weight – 235 g, energy consumption – up to 900mA.

Gateway announced a new Gateway 400L notebook featuring a 6-in-1 card reader (Compact Flash, Secure Digital, Sony Memory Stick, SmartMedia, IBM Microdrive and Multimedia Card).
A standard Gateway 400L currently offered for $999 at the website features 1.8GHz Mobile Intel Celeron, 128Mb DDR SDRAM, 30Gb HDD, DVD/CD-RW combo, 15" XGA LCD, V.92 56K modem, 10/100 Ethernet, USB 2.0 ports, Windows XP Home Edition. Optionally it can have 2.0GHz Mobile Celeron or 2.0GHz Mobile Intel Pentium 4-M, 40Gb HDD, Windows XP Professional, 802.11b (Wi-Fi) WLAN interface.
