Theiretically, this will enable to play DVD-Audio in usual CD players similar to the rival SA-CD.Before producing discs the members intends to conduct comprehensive compatibility testing with various DVD-Video, DVD-Audio/Video and CD players. Interactive Media announces Flash memory / MP3 player Interactive Media Corporation today announced its ultra miniature Kanguru Micro MP3 USB player with built-in flash memory.
The device supports USB1.1, weighs just 46 g and has 92x30.4x26 mm dimensions. It also features the built-in NAND memory and the 500 mA rechargeable battery (up to 6 hours of operation). Capable of resisting 1000G shock, the player can have 64Mb, 128Mb, and 256Mb capacities. It’s interesting that it doesn’t require drivers for Windows 2000/ME/XP, Mac OS 8.6+, Linux 2.4.0, they are necessary for Windows 98/98SE only. Besides storing and playing music, Kanguru Micro MP3 can also be used as a usual flash trinket. 64Mb Kanguru Micro MP3 costs $99.95, 128Mb and 256Mb versions $139.95 and $199.95, respectively.

Intel C++ 7.0 and Intel Fortran 7.0 for Windows/Linux released Intel announced new software development tools, optimized for new architectures, including the Hyper Threading. Updated Intel C++ Version 7.0 and Intel Fortran Version 7.0 for Windows/Linux are claimed to be able to raise the performance of Itanium 2, Xeon, and Pentium 4 systems by 40% comparing to other existing compilers.
The new solutions are already available, the suggested price being $399/version. Intel Fortran 7.0 for Windows/Linux is also available for sale now for $499 and $699, respectively.

Canon announces new 4-megapixel PowerShot S45 Canon USA announced the new PowerShot S45 digital still camera to replace PowerShot S40.Canon PowerShot S45 features 1/1.8" 4-megapixel CCD with 2272x1704 max. resolution (3.8 million effective pixels), 3x optical (F2.8-4.9) lens, 3.6õ digital zoom, 1.8" LCD, DIGIC processor. The camera supports 9-point AiAF autofocusing (against 3-point of the PowerShot S40), 9 white balance modes, etc. Data can be stored on Compact Flash Type I / Type II (including Microdrive), 32Mb Compact Flash Type I is included into the bundle.

Toshiba and Sony to announce 65-nm process technology at IEDM Toshiba and Sony together announced the development of 65-nm chip production technology. Companies spent three years and 15 billion yens ($120 million) for the work and plan to commercialize it by March 2004.Further details will be reported at IEDM (International Electron Devices Meeting), to take place next week, from December 9 to 11. Currently we know that transistor gateways are 30-nm wide, utilizing 1-nm high nitrated dielectric with high nitrogen content. Gateway action time is 0.72 picoseconds. The companies underline that the new technology enables to create 256 Mbit DRAM and 64 Mbit SRAM chips. Toshiba and Sony´s development is designed for 193-nm litho tools.
