2 GB DDR SDRAM PC2100 memory units from Elpida

Today Elpida announced the shipments of engineering samples of 2 GB DDR SDRAM PC2100 units, planning to launch their mass production in October.

They feature low-profile 1.2" (30.48 mm) 184-pin package that´s very attractive for 1U servers; CAS Latency 2/2.5. Units are to be made using 0.13-micron technical process and 512 Mbit DDR SDRAM chips (36 per unit).

Unlike traditional TSOP package, enabling 36 chips per 6.4-6.8 mm unit, new memories feature the new TCP — Tape Carrier Package. This reduces unit thickness to 4.8 mm including heatsink cover plates.

Currently 2 GB ECC EBD21RD4ABNA units are available organized as 256M x 72 bits, 2 banks, with 2.5±0.2 V supply voltage.

ATI: RV250 and R300 on July, 17?

Taiwan rumours that ATI Technologies plans to present two new RV250-based GPUs — Radeon 9000 and Radeon 9000 Pro, and the top-end DirectX 9 Radeon 9700 chip (former R300) already on Wednesday, July, 17.

As you know, NVIDIA decided to use only 0.13-micron process technology for its NV18 and NV30 chips (with the usual contractor — TSMC). So, according to provisional data, such boards will appear only in the end of the third quarter. In its turn, ATI, for the sake of efficiency, decided to make both 0.15-, and 0.13-micron chips. R300 production will completely transit to 0.13-micron process technology closer to the end of 2002.

According to provisional data, we should expect new RV250-based cards from ATI already in September.

New AMD Athlon XP 1800+ mobile CPU

Today AMD officially announced the new 0.13-micron AMD Athlon XP 1800+ mobile processor based on Thoroughbred.

Its actual clock rate is 1.53 GHz, 66 MHz higher than its predecessor, Athlon XP 1700+, has. Hewlett-Packard, Sony, and ACER Europe were the first to release novelty-based solutions.

Hewlett-Packard presented HP Pavilion ZE1250 model with Athlon XP 1800+, 15" LCD panel, 512 MB RAM, 30 GB hard disk, CD-RW/DVD combo for $1799. Besides, new CPU will be featured in the Compaq Computer Presario 900 notebook line. Sony will ship new notebooks with its Vaio FXA series, ACER Europe — with Acer Aspire 1300 series.

AMD Athlon XP 1800+ costs $335 in wholesale over 1000 unit consignments.

PR-DLSW: dual-processor Socket 603 board from ASUS

ASUS published the specifications and photos of its dual-processor PR-DLSW Socket 603 motherboard designed for up to 2.4 GHz Intel Xeon chips.

Its main specifications:

  • Northbridge: ServerWorks CMIC-Workstation
  • AGP bridge: ServerWorks CIOB-G
  • PCI-X bridge: ServerWorks CIOB-X2
  • Southbridge: ServerWorks CSB5
  • Up to 12 GB of registered PC1600/PC2100 ECC DDR RAM, 6 DIMM DDR slots
  • Dual-channel integrated Ultra-160/320 SCSI adapter
  • 32-bit Ethernet controller (Intel 82551)
  • AGP Pro / 4x slot
  • Five 64-bit PCI-X slots
  • 32-bit / 33 MHz PCI slot
  • ASUS System Management Card (optional)

Toshiba´s DynaBook P5/S24PME with detachable keyboard

Toshiba DynaBook P5/S24PME with its wireless keyboard became a rather surprising comfort solution.

DynaBook P5/S24PME (PAP5S24PME) bases on 2.4 GHz desktop Pentium 4, has 256 MB PC2100 DDR SDRAM, 16" 1280È1024 LCD panel (Fine SuperView low response time technology), NVIDIA GeForce4 440 Go graphics (32 MB DDR), 40 GB Ultra ATA/100 hard disk, 16/10/24/8x CD-RW/DVD-ROM combo, floppy, and the full range of interfaces: 56kbps modem, 10/100BASE-TX LAN, 2 PC Card Type II/III slots, 3 USB 1.1 ports, IEEE1394 port, IrDA, video-out, etc.

The insteresting thing is that wireless keyboard can be easily removed from its seat to control the notebook from a more comfortable distance (having in mind the 16" display).

But the energy consumption of up to 90 W is not usual for a notebook. Though the company guarantees that Li-Ion battery supplied enables 2.5-hour operation.

Novelty size is 346.4 È 327.5 È 57 mm, weight — about 4.4 kg. The notebook with pre-installed Windows XP Home Edition and Office XP Personal will be first presented on the Japanese market first for about $2800.

M1687/M1563: Ali released its AMD Hammer chipset

ALi Corporation officially announced the release of M1687 (Northbridge) + M1563 (Southbridge) chipset, shown at Computex 2002, that supports expected 64-bit AMD Opteron and AMD Athlon-64.

ALi M1687 supports AGP 8È, HyperTransport interconnect bus.

ALi M1563 Southbridge is a highly integrated solution supporting AC-Link, ATA-133, 6 USB 2.0 ports, 10/100 Fast Ethernet, Sony MemoryStick / SD, etc.
