Three NVIDIA nForce2-based system boards from Leadtek Brilliance 200P3M: new 20" LCD monitor from Philips NVIDIA nForce2: new era of Athlon XP chipsets SGI and Nokia plan to port OpenGL to mobile phones Three NVIDIA nForce2-based system boards from Leadtek Leadtek Research announced new WinFast nForce2 family motherboards based on NVIDIA´s recently announced nForce2 chipset.![]() Leadtek WinFast nForce2 line features three boards: K7NCR18D, K7NCR18G, and K7NCR18M. WinFast K7NCR18G is made on nForce2 with integrated GeForce4 MX, other specifications to follow, I guess.
![]() The boards provide all capabilities of the new chipset, including DDR400, USB 2.0, ATA133, Firewire, etc. Besides, all WinFast nForce2 family supports the improved O.T.S. (Over Temperature Shutdown) X-BIOS II technology, protecting CPU from damage in case of cooling system failure.
Brilliance 200P3M: new 20" LCD monitor from Philips Philips presented new 20" multimedia LCD monitor Brilliance 200P3M.![]() According to the company, Philips Brilliance 200P3M is designed for finanÓe, medicine, software development, CAD/CAM spheres. The monitor supports 1600x1200 (UXGA) resolution, up to 250 candles/sq.m maximum brightness, 300:1 contrast, 160° horizontal and vertical viewving angle. The monitor features analog, S-Video and digital DVI-I jacks, supports PIP (Picture-in-Picture). Built-in stereo speakers provide total 48 W (PMPO). Philips Brilliance 200P3M LCD will be shipped to the European market from July. The recommended price is 2799 euro.
NVIDIA nForce2: new era of Athlon XP chipsets As I´ve already reported today, NVIDIA has officially announced the next-generation integrated chipset for Athlon XP/ Duron nForce2 (former Crush17/18).![]() Let me describe some of its features.
![]() Of course, the new nForce2 is interesting with DDR SDRAM support, including still non-standardized DDR400. Another pleasant component is the MCP (Media Communication Processor) featuring IEEE 1394, USB 2.0, Ultra ATA/133 support, and unusual dual Ethernet controllers.
![]() ![]() Currently nForce2 family features two Northbridges: discrete nForce2-ST or nForce2-GT with integrated GeForce4 MX GPU. I must admit that IGP (Integrated Graphics Processor) of new nForce-GT has been considerably improved to provide better perofrmance than GeForce2 of the previous nForce. The new built-in GeForce4 MX GPU operates at 250 MHz and supports DirectX 8. During the presentation NVIDIA announced some impressive test results of new nForce2 boards. Here´s a couple of them, and more detailed performance results is to be available from our test lab.
![]() ![]() The motherboards based on this chipset also feature AGP 8È slot that can be used not only for an add-in card, but also for DVI/TV Riser Card promoted by NVIDIA, that enables DVI and TV jacks, respectively. Besides, the Southbridge or MCP (Media Communication Processor) will also have two modifications:
So, there are four variants of nForce 2 South/Northbridge configurations. The following nForce2 motherboards were presented at the press conference:
Shuttle Computer has not only shown its nForce2 board, but also presented a complete barebone solution.
![]() ![]() Speaker developers continue to surprise us all the time, making interesting and odd novelties. Now Pioneer presented a mobile inflatable speaker, designed for using in aircrafts (due to its extremely low weight, I guess) and cars. ![]() The company has already presented several non-typical portables like paper speaker, Music Pillow speaker and a special one for bathrooms Happy Aqua.
SGI and Nokia plan to port OpenGL to mobile phones SGI and Nokia signed the agreement about the joint development of an OpenGL-based 3D platform for mobile phones.According to the document, the standard will be developed by Khronos Group, known by its game consoles and aircraft electronics. Khronos´s development will contain J2ME. The signed agreement enables to port OpenGL application code to mobiles.
![]() nForce2 SPP features AGP 8X for add-in graphics and DDR400 subsystem for up to 3 DIMM modules. Though, it´s not necessary to install any add-in graphics, as nForce2 IGP already features GeForce 4 MX GPU supporting Accuview Antialiasing, MPEG2 Video Processing Engine (VPE), DVD and TV encoders and HDTV processor. Chipset supports LAN/WAN connectivity, 6 USB 2.0 ports and 3 FireWire (IEEE1394) ports. Besides, nForce2 MCP features Dolby Digital encoder. nForce2 samples are now shipped to company´s main partners: Abit, ABS, Alienware, Aopen, ASUSTeK, Atlas Micro, Chaintech, Epox, HyperSonic, Leadtek, MSI, Shuttle Computer, Soltek, Totally Awesome, and Vicious PC. nForce2 mass production is expected closer to August, and first nForce2 boards are to appear in September.
