$100 Notebooks Only in Three Years, Gartner Analysts Believe
No notebooks priced about 100 USD will appear in the nearest three years. This discouraging conclusion was drawn by Gartner analysts. According to them, all existing samples cost significantly more and there are no reasons for price reduction in the short term.
Moreover, they warn that companies focused on breaching the 100-dollar barrier may forget about other problems related to mini-notebooks. Such problems may include elaboration of adequate hardware specifications, availability of power supplies, affordability and price of Internet connection.
According to analysts, mini-notebook prices won't drop by more than 10-15% in the nearest 2-3 years, even considering the growing demand and reduction of notebook part prices. At that, costs of building and software will remain the same.
It's interesting that Gartner believes that mini-notebooks shouldn't be compact copies of their senior siblings. Instead, in terms of features they should be mobile Internet access points.
With regard to all this we wonder if Gartner analysts have ever heard of NPX-9000 or Jointech JL7100.
