VIA officially ships its new K8M800 AMD64 chipset with integrated graphics
Yesterday VIA Technologies launched shipments of its new VIA K8M800 chipset being company´s first integrated solution for AMD Athlon 64/Opteron processors. We´ve already posted enough about its specs, so today we just have to state the fact of shipments and offer some previously unknown details.
As you know, K8M800 is an integrated variant of the popular discrete K8T800 that additionally features the S3 Graphics UniChrome Pro IGP graphics core. The Northbridge and CPU are interconnected by 16-bit 1.6GHz HyperTransport, while the North and Soth bridges are connected by V-Link (533MB/s). The 128-bit UniChrome Pro IGP 2D/3D graphics operates at 200MHz, features integrated MPEG-2 accelerator and supports 16MB to 64MB allocated RAM. Besides, the chipset supports external AGP 8X/4X slot.
VIA K8M800 is coupled with VIA VT8237 Southbridge implying VIA Vinyl Audio 5.1/VIA Vinyl Gold Audio 7.1, VIA Gigabit Ethernet, 10/100 Fast Ethernet, MC97, 6 x PCI, 2 x Serial ATA + SATALite for 2 more SATA, V-RAID (SATA RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 0+1, JBOD), 8 x USB2.0.
I´ll just add that ready solutions are expected early in Q1 2004 from Asus, Biostar, Chaintech, ECS, FIC, Gigabyte, Jetway, Mitac, MSI (K8MM-LS), Shuttle, and Wistron.
