Dell W1700 – another monitor with a TV tuner
Dell started shipping its new 17" monitor with a built-in TV tuner W1700 – that costs avout $776 in Japan. Based on Super IPS, it supports WXGA (1280x768) resolution and 16.7 million colors. It also features 0.291 mm pixel pitch, 450nit brightness, 25ms response time, 400:1 contrast, 176° horizontal and vertical viewing angle (slightly better than those of similar models), 56-75Hz frame scan, 31-61kHz line scan, CATV (VHF/UHF/CATV) tuner capabilities.
Designed for modern graphics cards, the monitor has a DVI-D and a 15-pin D-Sub connectors as well as several AV interfaces, including Tuner Coax, Composite Video , Component Video, S-Video and RCA (L+R) Audio. As a multimedia solution it has 2x5W speakers, supports clearness correction, PIP. While working it consumes 60W. Sized 290-420x544x89.5mm, it weighs about 7kg.
The company is also going to ship a ready system, including W1700, desktop Dimension 2400C with 2GHz Celeron, 256MB RAM, 80GB HDD, optical drive.
You can find similar features in iiyama PLE430T-S (that is slightly smaller and lighter 4.4kg), Sharp LL-M17W1. However, W1700 has more powerful speakers.
