Taiwanese LCD shipments: expecting the sequential growth
As we’ve reported recently, despite the growing demand, Taiwanese LCD makers hadn’t succeeded to raise the December retail prices. Naturally, there are many factors affecting the pricing. One of the most important is the serious growth of several companies´ production volumes.
In November Chunghwa Picture Tubes (CPT) shipped 428,000 of 15" panels, 6,000 of 18" and some 17" panels. Chi Mei Optoelectronics (CMO) increased monthly shipments of 17" panels up to 200,000 units. In Q1 2003 the company plans to launch the production of 20" and 30" LCD TV panels along with cellular phone panels.
At the same time, despite the increased shipment volumes, AU Optronics (AUO) expects less sales comparing to October. Quanta Computer that had recently reduced its Q4 forecasts, shipped about 10,000 of 17" LCD panels in November. Due to the production lines re-equipment together with Hitachi for making notebook and TV panels, HannStar Display reduced its November shipments. The information on Taiwanese shipments of large LCD panels for the end of November is provided in the table:
