SmartDisk releases FirePower hard drives with FireWire 800 support
SmartDisk released the line of external FirePower hard drives, supporting the new FireWire 800 standard, also supported by some of Apple’s PCs. Along with IEEE1394b, FirePower drives support IEEE1394a as well as USB2.0.
FirePower solutions are based on 3.5" 7200rpm hard disks with 200Gb capacity and 8Mb buffer. The interface bases on OXFW922 chip from British Oxford Semiconductor.
FirePower hard drives are expected in retail in March 2003.
