Samsung launches volume production of 1Gbit DDR SDRAM chips
Korean Samsung Electronics launched the volume production of 1Gbit DDR SDRAM qualified by Intel. Chips are made on 12" wafers using 0.10µm process.
Available for DDR266 and DDR333, chips feature x4/8/16 architecture. As for modules, the product list includes 4Gb registered DIMM on 36 TSOP2 chips for servers/workstations/mainframes and 2Gb unbuffered desktop DIMM and notebook SO-DIMM.
According to The Digitimes, 1Gbit DDR SDRAM chips are made at Line 11 Samsung’s 12" line used for volume production. According to Samsung, referring ot Gartner Dataquest, in H2 2003 sales of 1Gbit DDR SDRAM chips will make $900 million, with already $2 billion in 2004 and $12.1 billion in 2007.
