Each graphics card has 1024MB of GDDR5 SDRAM allocated in 8 Hynix GDDR5 memory chips on the front and back sides of the PCB chips. These memory chips are designed for the maximum frequency of 1250 (5000) MHz. |

We compare new cards' PCBs with HD 4770, because the latter also has a 128-bit memory bus and supports GDDR5. But the new PCB layout is significantly different. All eight memory chips used to be installed on the front side, but now four of them are located on the back. This is a very strange decision, to cool only four memory chips with the CPU cooler and leave the other four without no cooling whatsoever. We don't understand why engineers abandoned the all-on-the-front design, as it would have provided better memory cooling.
All cards apparently copy the reference design. The 5770 card is manufactured by AMD and only labelled and packed by partners.
TV-Out is becoming increasingly rare in modern graphics cards. It's considered that HDMI should push out old analog solutions.
Another important feature of HD 5xxx is that it can work with three receivers (monitors) simultaneously.
Maximum resolutions and frequencies:
- 240 Hz maximum refresh rate
- 2048 x 1536 x 32bit @ 85Hz Max -- analog interface
- 2560 x 1600 @ 60Hz Max -- digital interface (Dual-Link DVI)
As for HDTV, a review is available here.
All cards require additional power supply, so each is bundled with a molex to 6-pin adapter, even though all modern PSUs are equipped with these cables.
