Cooling

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580 1536MB

The cooler looks like that of GTX 480, but without heatpipes. And it has actually been redesigned. First of all, it now has a copper vaporizing chamber that adjoins the GPU. Above the chamber are fins, through which air is driven by the turbine. According to our tests, this solution is more efficient than the previous one based on heatpipes. Special liquid inside the vaporizing chamber instantly transfers heat from the bottom plate to the top.

The last but not the least is radically new cooler controls. Now the turbine speed changes smoothly, depending on core temperaturewhich improves cooling efficiency. Combined, these features make sure that cooler noise is very low (unlike that of GTX 480), especially in the idle mode or under low load.

Traditionally, we monitored temperatures using EVGA Precision (based on RivaTuner).

As you can see, the maximum temperature is only 87°C. And this is after continuously working in the 3D mode for 8 hours. This means that both the core and the cooler have been optimized.

The maximum power consumption under load made 270-280W.
