iPhone 5 Gets New 19-pin Connector
A few days ago, it became known that Apple had patended a 19-pin connector. This, along with a confirmation from Reuters yesterday, vefiried earlier rumors about iPhone 5 getting a new plug. Reuters's source explained that Apple wanted to free up more space for an earphone jack on the bottom side of the phone.
As you understand, this change will make it impossible to use new iPhones with millions of existing devices compatible with the current plug that has been used since 2003. Obviously, this will create demand for an adapter and Apple will only be happy to oblige.
Just to remind you, iPhone 5 is already in volume production, and sales are expected to start in October 2012.
