NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 Graphics Card: DX11 for the Masses
NVIDIA introduced its new graphics card based on a Fermi GPU. NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 is company's first mainstream solution with DirectX 11 support and its MSRP is $199 (there's a little catch in it, see below).
Quite naturally, NVIDIA underlines that the novelty's key feature is tesselation power. And according to the press release, GeForce GTX 460 outperforms "competing GPUs" by four times in terms of tesselation. Oh, and the novelty also supports NVIDIA 3D Vision.
The GPU has 336 CUDA cores and 56 TMUs. Note that there are two GeForce GTX 460 variants. One has 768MB memory and 192-bit bus and the other has 1GB memory and 256-bit bus. Of course, it's the first one that costs $199. The MSRP of the second is $229. Anyway, both variants have the same clock rates: 675/1350/1800 MHz GPU/Shaders/memory. The peak power consumption is 160W. As for interfaces, there are 2 x Dual-Link DVI and 1 x HDMI mini output.
The 768MB ($199) variant is already available from a number of companies, including ASUS, EVGA, Gigabyte, MSI, Sparkle, Zotac. The GeForce GTX 460 1GB variant is expected for sale after July 26. Some examples include MSI N460GTX Cyclone 1GD5/OC and N460GTX Cyclone 1GD5, PNY XLR8 GeForce GTX 460 1024MB GDDR5 ($249), Sparkle SXX4601024D5SNM, ZOTAC GeForce GTX 460 1GB. By the way, Sparkle will also introduce a 2GB variant SXX4602048D5NM. It should have the 256-bit bus and standard clock rates. Anyway, judging by pricing and first performance tests, the novelty will compete with ATI Radeon HD 5830 released this February.
