Elpida Completes Development of 4-Gigabit DDR3 SDRAM

Elpida Completes Development of 4-Gigabit DDR3 SDRAM

Elpida Memory today announced that it had completed development of 4-gigabit DDR3 SDRAM, the highest density DDR3 DRAM in the DRAM industry.

Based on an advanced 40nm process, the new eco-friendly DRAM uses about 30% less power compared to two 40nm 2-gigabit DDR3 SDRAMs (4-gigabit equivalent) and enables servers, data centers and other large capacity memory systems to reduce power consumption. It can operate at both the standard 1.5V as well as at 1.35V to allow greater system power savings.

Features:

  • Product name: EDJ4204BASE, EDJ4208BASE, EDJ4216BASE;
  • Product manufacturing process: 40nm CMOS;
  • Memory capacity: 4-gigabit;
  • Data width: x4, x8, x16 bit;
  • Per-pin data transfer rate: 1600Mbps (max.);
  • Supply voltage: VDD: 1.5V / 1.35V;
  • Operating temperature range (TC): 0°C to 95°C;
  • Packaging: x4/x8-bit: 78-ball FBGA (lead free, halogen free), x16-bit: 96-ball FBGA (lead free, halogen free).

Elpida plans to ship 4-gigabit DDR3 SDRAM for the industry's highest density 32GB registered DIMMs (72 x 4-gigabit DDR3 SDRAMs in 36 Double Density Packages (DDP)), high-speed/high density new standard LRDIMM (Load Reduced DIMM) for servers, 8GB ECC unbuffered DIMM (18 x 4-gigabit DDR3 SDRAM) for workstations, 8GB SO-DIMM (16 x 4-gigabit DDR3 SDRAM) for notebook PCs and digital consumer electronic products.

Elpida plans to begin sample shipments of 4-gigabit DDR3 SDRAM in the second quarter of 2010 (April-June) and commence mass production in the third quarter.
