Intel Officially Releases Core 2 Duo
Much has been said already about Intel's new Core 2 Duo (Conroe). The majority of hardware reviewers already had time to test new CPU samples and prove that Intel actually created a good processor lacking many disadvantages of the previous CPU generation. If you still didn't see any of reviews, you can always read this one, this one and this one.
Today Core 2 Duo was finally announced officially. As you remember, AMD made several actions to distract users from this event: cut prices and introduced the 4x4 platform (and no need to say about it acquiring ATI).
Intel didn't offer any surprises, there are still 10 new CPUs, including 5 desktop (1066 MHz FSB) and 5 mobile (667 MHz FSB):

According to Intel's Paul Otellini, Core 2 Duo processors are simply the best. With 291 million transistors and 40% less energy consumption (over previous generation) they suit both present and future needs. (You didn't expect anything other than that, did you? :)
As usual there will be a gap between this paper announcement and actual arrival to stores. According to sources, desktop Core 2 Duo will go on sale early in August, while mobile ones - in the end of that month.

Samsung Introduces 8GB MMC Cards
Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. announced today that it has developed the highest density MMC card based on its MLC (multi-level cell) NAND flash memory. It also has developed the new MMC card, based on SLC (single-level cell) NAND flash, in rounding out its portfolio of MMC memories.
Based on Samsung's 8-gigabit NAND flash memory, the MMCplus card will be introduced with an 8-gigabyte density, allowing it to store 2,000 MP3 music files or eight hours of DVD-quality movies. The 8GB card will be part of a full line up of MLC-based MMCplus cards that also will include 1GB, 2GB, and 4GB offerings.
Samsung also is introducing a separate card advancement: a higher performance MMC that more than triples the performance of conventional small-form-factor memory cards. The higher performance version makes use of SLC NAND flash memory, providing a read-speed of 40Mbytes/s and a write-speed of 25Mbytes/s. The high-performance card will be available in two variations: a 1GB and a 2GB density.
Samsung's new high-density and high-performance MMCplus cards are expected to be available in the second half of this year.
