Intel Officially Releases Core 2 Duo
Much has been said already about Intel's new Core 2 Duo (Conroe). The majority of hardware reviewers already had time to test new CPU samples and prove that Intel actually created a good processor lacking many disadvantages of the previous CPU generation. If you still didn't see any of reviews, you can always read this one, this one and this one.
Today Core 2 Duo was finally announced officially. As you remember, AMD made several actions to distract users from this event: cut prices and introduced the 4x4 platform (and no need to say about it acquiring ATI).
Intel didn't offer any surprises, there are still 10 new CPUs, including 5 desktop (1066 MHz FSB) and 5 mobile (667 MHz FSB):

According to Intel's Paul Otellini, Core 2 Duo processors are simply the best. With 291 million transistors and 40% less energy consumption (over previous generation) they suit both present and future needs. (You didn't expect anything other than that, did you? :)
As usual there will be a gap between this paper announcement and actual arrival to stores. According to sources, desktop Core 2 Duo will go on sale early in August, while mobile ones - in the end of that month.
