ASUS Introduces P5W DH Deluxe Motherboard

ASUSTeK Computer introduced the P5W DH Deluxe motherboard supporting both Intel's Core 2 Extreme and Core 2 Duo processors and ATI CrossFire graphics to deliver multimedia entertainment, wireless networking, data protection and easy access and management of various functions without being confined by the computer desk.

The board bases on Intel 975X/ICH7R chipset, supports 1066/800 MHz FSB, Dual Channel DDR2-800/667 memory. The fanless heat-pipe cooled board features the 8-Phase Power Design that delivers steadier power supply for the CPU by generating less heat than conventional power solutions and providing a higher overclocking margin. It reduces input ripple current and output ripple voltage, preventing the CPU and power modules from the risk of high power stress.

Onboard slots include 2 x PCI-E x16, 2 x PCI-E x1, 3 x PCI. The novelty supports Triple RAID: 3 x SATAII 3.0Gb/s with RAID 0,1,5 on Intel ICH7R; 1 x External SATAII 3.0Gb/s and 1 x SATAII 3.0Gb/s with RAID 0,1 on JMB363; 2 x Hardware SATAII 3.0Gb/s RAID 0, 1 (ASUS EZ-Backup) on a Silicon Image chip. It also supports RAID 0+1 cross Intel ICH7R and Silicon Image chip.

Other features include 2 x IDE, IEEE 1394a, 2 x Gigabit LAN, 1 x Wireless LAN, 8-channel HD Audio, Dolby Master Studio (Dolby Prologic IIX, Dolby Headphone, Dolby Virtual Speaker, Dolby Digital Live).

The motherboard supports a number of proprietary Digital Home features, including ASUS EZ-Backup (backup over RAID), ASUS DH Remote (use it to turn the PC on/off, activate suspend mode, control volume, play/pause/ff/rw, etc.), ASUS WiFi-AP Solo (provides both access point and wireless client modes), ASUS MP3-In (when the computer is off, users can still play music stored in their portable music players through the computer speakers.)

AMD Announces AMD Live! PC

AMD announced today the AMD LIVE! PC — a full-featured, easy-to-use media center PC, designed to enable consumers to organize, distribute, share, and enjoy their content collection throughout the home and on the go. OEM companies including Acer, Alienware, Fujitsu Siemens Computers, Gateway, HP, Sahara, and Tsinghua Tongfang, as well as system builders in North America, Western Europe, and China, will have AMD LIVE! PCs, powered by the AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual-core processor, starting in June. The AMD LIVE! Entertainment Suite, a collection of services and applications designed to enhance the PC experience, is also available today at www.amdlive.com.

The first solutions to be offered in the AMD LIVE! Entertainment Suite include AMD LIVE! On Demand powered by Orb Networks: a service that streams live or pre-recorded television programs, photos, music and movies to many common Web-connected devices; AMD LIVE! Compress: a tool that optimizes recorded television content in order to save space and time, enabling customers to save up to 10 times as many TV shows on their PC; AMD LIVE! Network Magic: an easy to use service that allows users to set up, manage and secure their home network; AMD LIVE! LogMeIn: a service providing users the ability to remotely control their AMD LIVE! PC to obtain access to content, files and programs from anywhere; and AMD LIVE! Media Vault: a service that can automatically back-up users’ digital content collection to a secure online server. Once registered and activated, AMD LIVE! PC users will receive 25GB of free storage to safely store their personal photos, home movies and music collections.

AMD recently announced their agreement with STMicroelectronics to develop high-definition networked set-top box solutions for consumers to connect to a desktop or notebook PC, transforming the TV experience from traditional and “linear” to a new, interactive experience. AMD and STMicroelectronics will demonstrate this solution from June 6-9 at Computex in Taipei, Taiwan.
