ATI Introduces Its Next Generation Mobile Workstation Graphics Technology LG Electronics Selects Hitachi Hard Drives For New DVD-HDD Recorders Sony Ericsson Announces M600 UMTS Phone ATI Introduces Its Next Generation Mobile Workstation Graphics Technology ATI Technologies introduces its next generation mobile workstation technology with the Mobility FireGL V5200, available in the Lenovo ThinkPad T60p. Certified for all the leading professional 3D applications such as AutoCAD, Catia, ICEM Surf, SolidWorks, 3dsmax, Maya and Softimage/XSI, the Mobility FireGL V5200 features 256MB of memory, 12 pixel shader processors and five vertex shader units to drive complex models and assemblies. Mobile workstations based on these new GPUs feature battery life of up to eight hours, according to the press release. ATI's FireGL products, for both desktop and mobile solutions are supported by a unified driver which is tested and certified by professional 3D ISV partners ensuring product reliability while simplifying system administration and maintenance. All FireGL products come with a three-year warranty and direct access to a dedicated workstation technical support team. Together with new mobile workstation GPUs ATI announced that Lenovo's new ThinkPad T60 thin-and-light model will feature Mobility Radeon X1400 and Mobility Radeon X1300 graphics processors. LG Electronics Selects Hitachi Hard Drives For New DVD-HDD Recorders Hitachi Global Storage Technologies today announced that LG Electronics will use Hitachi Deskstar hard drives in its new RH7800 series of DVD-HDD Recorders. The RH7800 series use 160 GB hard drives. Hitachi Deskstar drives were chosen for their substantial capacities, ability to handle multiple video streams simultaneously, quiet acoustics, low power requirements and overall reliability, the press release states. LG relied on Hitachi’s "Smooth Stream" technology to enhance the video streaming functionality in its new DVD-HDD Recorders. Based on the ATA-7 AV Streaming Feature Set standard, Smooth Stream enables the RH7800 to control the drive's error recovery process, optimizing the drive to capture multiple video streams simultaneously. LG’s DVD-HDD Recorders will be available in the first quarter of 2006. Sony Ericsson Announces M600 UMTS Phone Sony Ericsson today announces the M600 phone and messaging device. This is a fully-specified email tool and mobile phone rolled into a stylish, slim device featuring a touchscreen and handwriting recognition. M600 is the second Symbian OS 9.1 and UIQ 3.0 enabled phone in the Sony Ericsson portfolio offering users customisation opportunities and the ability to buy personal productivity and other applications from the Sony Ericsson Application Shop. The software platform and user interface, make multitasking – for example browsing the Internet whilst making a voice call - a reality, the press release states. M600 also takes full advantage of its UMTS capabilities with fast and easy email handling (even with large attachments) and high-bandwidth multimedia downloads. Document handling offers and PowerPoint, Word and Excel editors and an Adobe PDF viewer. The ergonomic design of the M600 makes it easy to operate with one hand or two and gives versatile options on how to perform messaging tasks. For example the large dual function keyboard makes for easy messaging input and is also the keypad for number buttons. Reading emails and viewing high quality video and graphics content is made easy with the 3-way Jog Dial and a 2.6" QVGA screen, capable of handling 262K colours. ![]() The M600 has 80MB of onboard memory for storing email attachments and multimedia content. An additional 64MB Memory Stick Micro (M2), which is a new ultra-small media, is provided in the box. The M600 is the first Sony Ericsson product to feature this new memory card. The M600 is available in Granite Black and Crystal White and starts shipping during Q2 2006.
