New Maxtor OneTouch Solution Hits A Terabyte

Maxtor Corporation announced its new Maxtor OneTouch III, Turbo Edition external storage solution for the consumer mass market. With capacities up to one 1TB, the new Maxtor OneTouch III, Turbo Edition integrates Maxtor's automated backup and restore capabilities for Mac and PC users, allows users to easily configure the solution for either RAID 0 or RAID 1 and includes new software tools to synchronize data between two or more computers and to help repair PC systems after a spyware or virus attack.

The Maxtor OneTouch III, Turbo Edition also sports new industrial design, an improved software user interface and redesigned retail package from consulting firm frog design inc.

Maxtor has also added Sync – a feature with the ability to automatically synchronize files between two or more systems on the same operating platform. Also, to combat spyware, adware and viruses, the new Maxtor OneTouch III, Turbo Edition includes a System Rollback feature that reverts a PC system to a healthier point in time while preserving current data.

All Maxtor OneTouch external storage and backup solutions come with a data security feature called Maxtor DriveLock, providing a password protection option to safeguard contents if the drive is ever lost or stolen. If the Maxtor OneTouch solution falls into the wrong hands, special firmware embedded on the hard drive restricts data access. Even if the internal hard drive is removed from the casing and attached to another computer, access will be denied without the correct password.

The Maxtor OneTouch III, Turbo Edition comes in a 600GB or 1TB capacity and features a triple USB 2.0/FireWire 400/FireWire 800 interface for easy connection to a Mac or PC. Availability begins in December at major U.S. retailers, distributors and online stores, as well as at www.maxstore.com. The manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) for the 600GB is $549.95 and $899.95 for the 1TB. Worldwide availability varies by region.

NEC LCD Technologies Develops New 10.4-Inch LCD Modules With Fastest Motion Picture Response Time

NEC LCD Technologies today announced the development of 10.4-inch (26cm diagonal), amorphous silicon TFT LCD modules claimed to offer the world's fastest Motion Picture Response Time (MPRT), a standard promoted by the Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA).

The XGA TFT LCD has wide viewing angle for broadcasting and medical use. This new XGA TFT LCD with MPRT of 6.0msec features doubled response speed of conventional SFT LCDs achieved through optimization of the LCD design, comprising of a change in liquid crystal material and revision of the cell structure, based on NEC LCD Technologies' proprietary SA-SFT technology. It also is the result of the adoption of a blinking-backlight approach to improve motion picture blurring caused by hold-type displays, which are typical to LCDs.

10.4-Inch XGA TFT LCD

The second novelty is a standard VGA TFT LCD for industrial applications. This new VGA TFT LCD with the MPRT of 5.0msec offers accelerated response speed achieved through optimization of the LCD design, comprising of a change in liquid crystal material and revision of the cell structure, based on a twisted nematic (TN) mode (currently the most standard driving method, the source says). It also employs an over-drive circuit to improve the gray-to-gray response speed. In addition, it adopts a blinking-backlight approach to improve motion picture blurring caused by hold-type displays, and 120Hz driving, which is double the speed of the usual frame rate, simultaneously.

Both new models will be displayed at FPD International 2005 being held in Pacifico Yokohama, Japan, from October 19 - 21.

Panasonic Expands the SD Audio Network with New SD Digital Audio Players and Stereo Systems

Panasonic, the brand by which Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. is known, today announced four new D-snap Audio digital audio players and two micro stereo systems that utilize SD Memory Cards. All the new SD audio products will be released to the Japanese market on November 19.

The new D-snap Audio players, the SV-SD750V, SV-SD700, SV-SD350V and SV-SD300 feature Panasonic's D.sound Engine LSI that incorporates digital amplifier, re-master and personal surround sound functions as well as four equalizers on a single chip. The SD750V and SD700 come with double-drive in-ear earphones that employ two separate drivers for low-range and mid- and high-range frequencies.

The SD750V and SD700 audio players measure 86x46x9.9mm and weigh only 53g including the rechargeable battery. Without moving mechanical parts, they are skip-proof, and large touch-sensitive buttons enable easy operation with just the thumb - suitable for physical activities such as jogging. They can play for up to 45 hours per single charge. When using the rechargeable battery and one AA dry cell together, the SD750V will play continuously for 105 hours. The battery is charged to full capacity in just two hours. Equipped with an FM global tuner, they can receive, record and playback FM radio broadcasts. Additionally, the SD750V and SD350V have voice recording capabilities.

The new SD stereo systems are claimed to be the world's first CD and FM/AM radio players featuring large-capacity built-in HDDs with SD Memory Card slots.

The new SD stereo systems are available in two storage capacities, 80 GB (SC-SX800) and 40 GB (SC-SX400). The dimensions of the main unit are 185x150x268mm. The two models offer up to 8X copying from the CD to HDD and up to 12X speed copying from the HDD to SD Memory Card. The players automatically create three music lists according to playback frequency, recorded dates and music impressions. A large LCD indicates seven lines of music titles and menus in QVGA (320x240) quality.

The 256 MB and 128 MB SD Memory Card will be sold as a three-color package consisting of one blue, one white and one red. The color variations help organize the user's music collection.
